Hunter Biden admitted the laptop whose hard drive contents were obtained by the media in late 2020 “certainly ... could be” his after all, with President Joe Biden’s son suggesting the laptop could have been stolen or hacked and hinting without evidence that Russian intelligence might be behind it.

NPR promotes flat-out falsehood regarding the Hunter Biden laptop story

NPR promotes flat-out falsehood regarding the Hunter Biden laptop story National Public Radio, which is funded by your tax dollars, asserted this week the Hunter Biden laptop story has been “discredited” by the U.S. intelligence community and independent media investigations. © Provided by Washington Examiner Not true. No such thing has happened. NPR's claim isn’t merely misleading. This isn’t a case of a poorly worded sentence. What NPR alleges has no basis in reality. The false assertion appears in the middle of NPR’s review of Hunter Biden’s new memoir, Beautiful Things.

He was asked about the laptop on CBS Sunday Morning in a clip released Friday, with Tracy Smith asking if it was his. The president’s son repeatedly gave evasive answers.

“For real, I don’t know. I really don’t know what the answer is,” Biden said. “That’s the truthful answer.”

When pressed again, “yes or no” if he knew whether the laptop was his, he dodged, saying, “I don’t have any idea. I have no idea whether or not.”

Smith said, “So it could’ve been yours.”

“Of course, certainly,” Biden replied. “There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked. It could be that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me.”

A Delaware computer repair shop owner named John Paul Mac Isaac said he came into possession of Biden’s laptop after the now-president’s son dropped it off for repairs in April 2019 but never came back to get it.

In new memoir, Hunter Biden reframes some political scandals but omits others

In new memoir, Hunter Biden reframes some political scandals but omits others After a year of withering attacks, Hunter Biden has emerged with a new memoir that seeks to reframe some of the scandals that nearly derailed his dad's presidential bid. In "Beautiful Things," out next week, Hunter Biden charts a life defined by tragedy, addiction and scandal -- all in the shadow of a doting and concerned father, Joe Biden, whose ascent to the White House came during some of his son's darkest moments.

The New York Post published stories beginning in October 2020 claiming the publication received a copy of a laptop hard drive belonging to Biden from Rudy Giuliani, who was a lawyer for former President Donald Trump. Giuliani said he obtained the hard drive from Mac Isaac's repair shop, and Mac Isaac said he also provided a copy to the FBI.

Biden has not denied that it was his hardware.

Emails showed evidence of a possible meeting between Biden, his father, who was the vice president at the time, and a top executive at a Ukrainian energy firm, which the elder Biden denied took place as was described in the reporting, according to the New York Post. The newspaper detailed Hunter Biden's financial dealings with shady Chinese businessmen, for which more details have emerged in recent months.

When the publication attempted to post the articles on its Twitter account, the social media company claimed doing so violated its rule against sharing "hacked" materials, without evidence of this.

Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, along with many in the media, dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop story as being part of a Russian disinformation operation, without evidence. Concerns about Biden gained broader attention in late 2020 after multiple outlets reported that he is being federally investigated in connection with his taxes and potentially related to his overseas business with China and other countries.

During a presidential debate, Joe Biden dismissed the laptop emails as part of a “Russian plan” and inaccurately cited a letter from dozens of former intelligence officials.

"There are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what [Trump's] accusing me of is a Russian plan," he said.

Trump retorted, “You mean the laptop is now another 'Russia, Russia, Russia' hoax?”

Biden said, “That’s exactly what I was told.”

Biden was referring to a Politico report that over 50 ex-intelligence officials, including Obama administration CIA Director John Brennan, signed a letter in an article by Natasha Bertrand titled “ Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.” The title was misleading because the signatories never called the laptop “Russian disinformation."

Hunter Biden Doesn't Remember If He Left Laptop With Repairman: 'I Truly Do Not Know'

Hunter Biden Doesn't Remember If He Left Laptop With Repairman: 'I Truly Do Not Know' "You'll realize that I wasn't keeping tabs on possessions very well for about a four-year period of time," the president's son said in a recent interview with CBS News.Last October—just weeks ahead of the 2020 presidential election—emails and images from a laptop allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden were reported on by The New York Post. John Paul MacIsaac, the owner of a laptop repair store in Delaware, said that an unidentified man—whom he believed was Hunter Biden—left the computer with him and never returned for it.

They cited another article claiming that “federal authorities are investigating whether the material … is part of a smoke bomb of disinformation pushed by Russia,” but said that “we do not know whether these press reports are accurate.”

The laptop “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation," the officials claimed, but admitted that “we do not have evidence of Russian involvement."

Trump's director of national intelligence, John Ratcliffe, said Oct. 19, 2020, that “there is no intelligence that supports that, and we have shared no intelligence with Chairman Schiff or any other member of Congress that Hunter Biden’s laptop is part of some Russian disinformation campaign.” A federal law enforcement official told the Washington Examiner the same month that the FBI and DOJ agreed with Ratcliffe.

Kremlin-linked operatives sought to denigrate Joe Biden and undermine his campaign, a March 15 report on 2020 foreign election influence by President Joe Biden's Office of the Director of National Intelligence concluded. The report did not reference the Hunter Biden laptop story and the Biden Office of the Director of National Intelligence reached no public conclusions related to it.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence report concluded that Iran had worked to undermine Trump's reelection and that China hadn't sought to influence the election one way or another, but with a minority view from the national intelligence officer for cyber saying China did take steps to hurt Trump's chances.

In another clip, CBS News interviewer Anthony Mason asked Hunter Biden about an attempted family intervention when Joe Biden chased his son.

“Yeah, because I tried to get into — I tried to go to my car, and the girls literally blocked the door to my car, and said, ‘Dad, dad, please, you can’t, no, no.’ That was the hardest part of the book to write,” Hunter said. “And he grabbed me in a hug. He grabbed me. He gave me a big bear hug, and he said — he just cried — he said, ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do. Please —.’”

Mason asked what Hunter Biden thought when he heard that.

“I thought I need to figure out a way to tell him that I’m gonna do something so that I can go and take another hit,” he replied. “It’s the only thing I could think. Literally. That’s how powerful. I don’t know of a force more powerful than my family’s love, except addiction.”

After being asked in Dec. 22, 2020, if he still thought reports about his son were Russian disinformation, President Joe Biden replied, "Yes, yes, yes. God love you, man — you're a one-horse pony, I tell you."
