California Republican gubernatorial candidate John Cox brought a special guest with him on the campaign trial in Sacramento on Tuesday: a 1,000-pound bear.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom to face recall vote as petition drive hits signature goal
Organizers of a petition drive to force a recall election of California Gov. Gavin Newsom gathered enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.The 1.6 million signatures are about 100,000 more than needed to force a vote on the first-term Democrat. The validation process won't be complete until Thursday, the deadline for county elections officials to verify the validity of any remaining signatures and report the final signature verification.
Cox's campaign, , is putting $5 million into an advertising campaign that depicts Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom as the "beauty" who needs to be replaced by a "beast."
On Monday, Cox's campaign released an ad called "Meet the BEAST," where the narrator says, "That's our choice, California. You want beauty," which is followed by the sound of a parrot saying "pretty boy," "or a ball-busting beast?"
