New York City 's largest public employee union, DC 37, took legal issue with the city 's mandate on Monday. "If City Hall intends to test our members weekly, they must first meet us at the table to bargain. While we encourage everyone to get vaccinated and support measures to ensure our members’ health and The latest vaccine data indicates that their tone change might be changing some minds. On Sunday, the CDC reported an uptick in the number of vaccine doses administered in the past 24 hours - 778,996, the highest number given in a 24-hour period since the United States reported giving 1.16

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has called on private businesses to refuse service to unvaccinated customers, admitting his own government lacks legal standing to declare a sweeping statewide mandate . The governor has already required all state employees either be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing by September 13 (and earlier for some workers ), but given the tone of his remarks, it appears he would just as soon jettison the testing option and switch to full mandate – assuming he can.

The Denver city government on Monday announced that it would be issuing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for public city workers as well as some high-risk private-sector workers.

"The City and County of Denver is approving a far-reaching public health order mandating that all city employees, as well as private-sector workers in high-risk settings, be required to be fully vaccinated against #COVID19 by September 30," the Denver city and county Twitter account tweeted.

High-risk workers subject to the vaccine requirement include those who work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, shelters, correctional facilities and schools, as well as home health care providers.

The city acknowledged that masking and social distancing are still "important tools" to protect vulnerable individuals against COVID-19.

"Still, these measures are no substitute for what we need - more people must get vaccinated," the city tweeted.

It added that the 70 percent vaccination rate that President Biden had set is "not enough" to protect "residents, families, businesses, and economy from another devastating blow this fall and winter."

45% of Republicans support a universal vaccine mandate, as do a strong majority of Americans, a new poll shows A universal mandate has not been proposed by state or federal leaders, but requirements have been issued at various levels. The survey also found that a strong majority of Americans (64%) would support a universal vaccine mandate across the US. Most Americans (70%) supported a vaccine requirement for getting on a plane, as well as requiring one for allowing children to go back to school (61%), and mandating one for college students to go back to university (66%).

Vaccinating a whole country – especially one as large as the US – was always going to be a massive undertaking. But it’s not just the logistics that are causing issues : many Americans are hesitant about getting vaccinated at all. A Pew Research Center poll released 3 December found that 60% of Americans said they definitely or probably would get the vaccine if one were made available immediately, a noted rise Hospitals have long mandated the flu vaccine for their employees as healthcare workers can transmit the flu virus to high - risk patients even if they do not show symptoms.

The vaccination mandate "also applies to high - risk congregate settings like adult and senior residential facilities, homeless shelters and jails." "NEW: CA will have the strongest state vaccine verification system in the US and will require state employees & healthcare workers to provide New York City adopted a similar policy requiring all healthcare workers and municipal workers including police, firefighters and teachers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H) employees must be fully vaccinated by Aug.

Health experts have stated that more infectious coronavirus variants will require a higher vaccination rate in order to achieve a strong community-wide immunity.

The Colorado state government had already announced last week that it would be requiring all state employees to either get vaccinated by Sept. 20 or undergo twice-weekly COVID-19 tests, KDVR reported.

Both the Colorado state government's and the Denver city government's policies appear to be broader than vaccine mandates that have been issued in New York City and California in which public workers will be required to get vaccinated or undergo weekly testing.

"Denver is a resilient city, and we must protect our people and the progress we have made together," the Denver city government added. "No one wants to relive the horrors of last year. No one wants to see another city lockdown to stop a crisis that threatens to overwhelm our hospitals."
