Senate Majority Leader announced Wednesday that his father had died at the age of 98.
The New York Democrat shared the news onin a post saying his father, Abraham "Abe" Schumer, died Wednesday evening.
"In so many ways — he personified the greatest generation. He took whatever was thrown at him no matter how difficult, did his job, never complained," Schumer said in the post which included a family photo. "An amazing husband, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent. We love him and will miss him."

Abe Schumer grew up in Utica, New York, served as a radar operator in planes flying over the Himalayas in World War II, and took over his father’s exterminating business after the war,.
Chuck Schumer is the oldest of three children to Abe and Selma Schumer.
The senator told reporters earlier in the week that his father had a procedure for heart problems and planned to spend Thanksgiving with him at a Long Island hospital,.
The elder Schumer died the day after his son's 71st birthday. Chuck Schumer was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1950.
Friends and colleagues on both sides of the political aisle shared their condolences to Chuck Schumer and his family.
