This Galaxy S9 news could make Apple’s bad day even worse

This Galaxy S9 news could make Apple’s bad day even worse Apple shares are down nearly 3 percent on Tuesday, following a report that the company is planning to slash forecasts for iPhone X sales in the first quarter of 2018. A report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily suggests that Apple will cut forecasts to 30 million units, down from 50 million. If true, that’s going to be a huge blow for Apple, and investors who were expecting a “super-cycle” of iPhone X sales. But things are only getting worse for Apple, as South Korean paper ET News is reporting that Samsung will release the Galaxy S9 a little earlier than expected next year.

"I contacted Apple this week about getting a replacement battery for my iPhone 6. I called Apple Care Support earlier this week after looking online for Hit the comments and share your experiences. How long did you wait? What was the outcome? Update, Jan. 29 : Added More options section.

Apple is running this battery replacement program for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 s , iPhone 6 s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. You can get the battery replaced at $ 29 (down from ) even if your battery health is above 80% (that is, for the first time). But how do you go about it?

Most phone owners come to realize that an old battery is a weak battery, one that gradually loses capacity. But it turns out that an old battery can also be a performance-killing battery, as evidenced by Apple's recent revelation: Owing to an intentional software feature, some iPhones will run slower if they have older, failing batteries.

Fortunately, there's a simple fix: Get a new battery. Previously, Apple charged $79 for such a swap, but effectively immediately, you can get a replacement battery from Apple for just $29. That's for any iPhone 6 or later. (A similar discount will be available outside the US -- for example, the replacement cost will be lowered to £25 in the UK and AU$39 in Australia -- and Apple says it will provide more details on its site soon.)

Apple faces multiple lawsuits after admitting to slowing down iPhones as their batteries age

Apple faces multiple lawsuits after admitting to slowing down iPhones as their batteries age iPhone owners aren't happy with Apple, and they're letting the company know with lawsuits. These iPhone owners claim that they all upgraded their devices to newer models once their phones slowed down after updating to new versions of iOS. The lawsuit states if they had known their batteries were to blame for the slowdown, they would have replaced the battery instead of buying a new phone. Prior lawsuits make similar arguments.

If you’ve got a years-old iPhone , you should probably take advantage of Apple ’ s discounted $ 29 battery replacement program before it ends in December 2018. Owners of the iPhone 6 and newer models are entitled to the special pricing after it was discovered the company had been throttling

How long does the battery replacement program last? Apple has already begin swapping out batteries and says the program will last through December 2018. If you take your iPhone in to an Apple store for a new battery , the store will be able to get the battery without an extended delay.

Do it. If your phone is more than a year old, it's no doubt lost some of its capacity (and, apparently, some of its speed). This is a cheap and easy fix, one that will not only extend the life of your phone, but also make it feel kind of new again.

There are three ways to get this replacement done:

  • At an Apple Store

  • At an authorized Apple service center

  • By mail

I strongly recommend against that third option. For starters, it'll leave you without your phone for at least a week -- and if there's any kind of problem, that could delay things even further.

To schedule an appointment locally, in a store or service center, head to Apple's support page, click iPhone, then click Battery, Power & Charging. Now choose Battery replacement and then Bring in for Repair.

Apple apologizes for confusion over slowdowns with older iPhones

Apple apologizes for confusion over slowdowns with older iPhones Apple has been in hot water for the last few weeks after the company admitted that it sometimes reduced processor speeds on iPhones with aging batteries as a way to balance performance and battery life. For starters, the company says that "we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades." That's been perhaps the biggest point of contention among unhappy owners who feel that Apple has reduced their phone's performance as a way to drive more sales.

Here' s how to replace the battery on your iPhone 6 from Apple for $ 29 . Once the battery is replaced , there will be no need to throttle the phone, at least until the new battery starts getting older and can't handle certain tasks without the risk of shutting down the whole device.

Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by — from to $ 29 — for anyone As always, our team is working on ways to make the user experience even better, including improving how we manage performance and avoid unexpected shutdowns as batteries age.

Next, you'll need to sign in with your Apple ID and select the device you're bringing in. From there you can find the nearest available location and choose a time.

What happens next

Once you arrive for your appointment, the technician will likely perform a battery diagnostic. Don't worry about the results, though: Even if your phone shows it's retaining 80 percent or greater of its original capacity (which normally would preclude you from a replacement), Apple will give you the $29 deal.

That's assuming the store has batteries in stock. CNET's Oliver Padilla went to one yesterday and was told he'd have to wait for more batteries to arrive. (He was also assured he'd get the $29 replacement, even though his iPhone 6 showed "green" on the battery diagnostic.)

If the store does have batteries available, you could be looking at a wait of several hours or even days, depending on how many iPhones are in line ahead of you. Consequently, it might make sense to wait a few weeks before scheduling your appointment, as there's almost certainly going to be a land-grab (battery-grab?) in the wake of all this publicity.

Fortunately, the $29 replacement program isn't going anywhere: Apple plans to run it through December 2018.

If you've already taken advantage of it, hit the comments and share your experiences. How long did you wait? What was the outcome?
