A rollable TV? LG's latest OLED TV television packs a futuristic 'wow' factor

A rollable TV? LG's latest OLED TV television packs a futuristic 'wow' factor LG's new Signature OLED TV R takes the traditional TV experience and flips it. Or rather, rolls it. The company's new television, called the Signature OLED TV R (or model 65R9 for short), is due later this year. It takes LG's already excellent OLED display technology and builds on it. The result, a screen that doesn't just live in your room but one that pops up from its base when you want it and rolls back up when you don't. Bigger screens, sharper displays, fancier technologies are all near guarantees at the annual technology industry event.

Vizio, meanwhile, will be bringing AirPlay 2 to "millions" of its SmartCast TVs by the spring. Vizio will be integrating Apple's HomeKit software to allow you to use Siri to control your TV as well.

And it doesn't appear that Apple will be stopping with just Samsung and Vizio. On its updated AirPlay 2 information page the company says that "leading TV manufacturers are integrating AirPlay 2 directly into their TVs," suggesting that others are on the horizon.

Apple isn't the first to add its own streaming software into televisions. Google has long worked with TV manufacturers, including Vizio, to include its Chromecast technology inside of TVs.

But for consumers looking for easier ways to watch the content they own or rent on the biggest displays in the house, the more options the better.

More smart TVs are getting Apple AirPlay but that doesn't mean you'll be able to use it.
New TVs with Apple’s streaming video feature AirPlay built-in should make the connection easier. But that might not be so for pay-TV subscribers. Here’s the breakdown among some top pay-TV providers: AT&T has AirPlay disabled in the apps it provides for its U-verse and DirecTV services, a provision the company attributed to those apps being built for watching away from home. Comcast disables AirPlay in its Xfinity Stream app; the company says that’s the result of digital-rights-management restrictions programmers require it to enforce.
