Google’s mysterious operating system that will replace Android runs on the Pixel 3

Google’s mysterious operating system that will replace Android runs on the Pixel 3 One of the best things about Google’s Android phones is that they’re always going to be the first to get Android updates, and those updates are guaranteed for three years. The Pixel 3 phones will get software updates through 2021, which is a great reason to buy a brand new Pixel phone. But, as it turns out, the new Pixel phones can also run another Google OS — the one that keeps popping in leaks and reports, and the one that will likely “kill” Android. require(["medianetNativeAdOnArticle"], function (medianetNativeAdOnArticle) { medianetNativeAdOnArticle.

What’s next for Google’s Pixel range? A non-premium handset and a smartwatch, says a recent report from Nikkei Asian Review.

The Japanese business title claims that Google is planning an “aggressive push into hardware” in 2019, hoping to capitalize on Apple’s wobbly expansion into developing markets with a non-premium Pixel phone and then update its other offerings.

This isn’t unexpected. We’ve already seen quite a few photo and video leaks of the Pixel 3 Lite, which rumors say sports a 5.6-inch IPS display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB storage, plastic case, and midrange Snapdragon 670 processor. Nikkei’s contribution to the rumor mill is that the device will supposedly cost less than Apple’s cheapest smartphone, the $749 iPhone XR (though that still leaves a broad range of price points). An earlier report from Android Police said that a Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite would launch on Verizon this spring.

This is when Google will launch the first Android Q beta for the public It’s only January, but the first Android Q rumors are already here. The next major Android update will reportedly ship with built-in dark mode support, a report said recently, while a benchmark test showed us what could be the first Google device running Android Q out of the box. That said, we finally know when Android Q will be available for your Pixel 3 — and likely a bunch of other devices — because Google just announced the dates for I/O 2019. require(["medianetNativeAdOnArticle"], function (medianetNativeAdOnArticle) { medianetNativeAdOnArticle.

In addition, says Nikkei, Google will release an updated version of Google Home this year, along with a new security camera and a “smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch.”

These first two predictions are par for the course. The Nest team was integrated with Google in February last year just so they could crank out a new security cam. And since the Google Home launched in 2016, we’ve seen a new version released every year, including the Home Mini, Home Max, and Home Hub.

But a new smartwatch is a different prospect entirely, and something Google fans have been waiting on for a while. Prolific leaker Evan Blass predicted that Google would launch the Pixel Watch at the company’s fall hardware event last year. It didn’t, of course, but it’s not hard to see why. With shaky Android smartwatch sales and delays to its wearable OS, the prospects for the Pixel Watch aren’t completely sunny. Let’s see if Google pushes on.
