The head had been well preserved by the permafrost and still sported a full head of hair and sharp The severed head is 16 inches (40 centimeters) long. That' s about half the size of a modern wolf ' s These are the first remains to be found of a well-preserved, fully grown wolf from the Pleistocene

Hundred-million year old wasp that's been called Dracula because its long sharp teeth resemble the vampire's is found trapped in amber The amber in which the wasp was trapped was extracted from mines located in the the Hukawng Valley of Kachin Province in Myanmar and was studied by scientists in Moscow.

The head was dated older than 40, 000 years by Japanese scientists. Scientists at the Swedish Museum of Natural ‘This is a unique discovery of the first ever remains of a fully grown Pleistocene wolf with its tissue preserved.' Ancient coloured ‘pencil’ up to 50, 000 years old found in Siberia .

Unsure if it was thousands of years old or just a few hundred, he passed a sample to the museum of natural history in Stockholm, where the head was found to Based on bones found in Siberia , both dogs and modern wolves are believed to have split off from a wolf ancestor at least 27, 000 years ago.

The wolf, whose fur and fangs are still intact, was between 2 and 4 years old when it died, The Siberian Times reported Friday.

"‘This is a unique discovery of the first ever remains of a fully grown Pleistocene wolf with its tissue preserved," Albert Protopopov, director of the mammoth studies department at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha told the Times. "We will be comparing it to modern-day wolves to understand how the species has evolved and to reconstruct its appearance."

The Pleistocene wolf’s head measured more than 15 inches long, per the Times, larger than that of a modern wolf's head, which measures between 9 and 11 inches. Protopopov estimated the specimen is more than 40,000 years old, but two paleontologists involved in the project, Love Dalén from the Swedish Museum of Natural History and Valeri Plotniknov from the Yakutia Academy of Sciences, told Gizmodo that the head was closer to 30,000 years old.

The team from Sweden will study the predator's DNA, and researchers are building a digital model of the wolf’s brain and the interior of its skull, Protopopov told CNN.

Severed foot fished out of in Indiana pond belongs to mother missing since March

Severed foot fished out of in Indiana pond belongs to mother missing since March A human foot recently reeled in by a man fishing in a northwestern Indiana pond belongs to a mother of five, who vanished nearly two months ago. Avon Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Nugent confirmed late Wednesday night the remains are those of 30-year-old Najah Ferrell, who was last seen alive at her Avon home in mid-March. Officers responded to a retention pond in Crown Point on April 9, after a man reported fishing the severed foot out of the water. A distinct tattoo on the appendage allowed officers to preliminary identify the foot as Ferrell's and DNA testing by the Indiana State Police has now confirmed their theory.

The head of a prehistoric wolf was found preserved, with teeth and brain, in the Siberian permafrost. The predator is thought to have a thick "mammoth-like" coat and fangs larger than wolves in Siberia today. The discovery was made above the Arctic Circle by local man Pavel Efimov

The head of the wolf found in permafrost in Siberia is the first-ever remains of a fully grown The uniqueness of this find is that we found the head of an adult wolf with perfectly preserved soft Images of the discovery show that the wolf ’ s fur and fangs are still intact. The head is being studied

"The number of discoveries is growing because of the thaw of the permafrost," he told CNN.

The specimen was discovered alongside a well-preserved cave lion cub which was the same size, the Times reported. Researchers believe the cub, nicknamed Spartak, died shortly after birth.
