Intel's 10th-gen CPUs for powerful ultraportables will reach six cores

Intel's 10th-gen CPUs for powerful ultraportables will reach six cores The big selling point with Intel's first 10th-gen Core processors is the company's new 10nm architecture, the result of a long journey towards shrinking down its production process. It's a much more efficient design, which will lead to both power savings and better performance. But the next batch of 10th-gen chips, codenamed "Comet Lake," won't be taking advantage of that new technology. Instead, they're more powerful 14nm chips meant for heavier workloads in thin and light machines. This time around, Intel has finally brought a six-core/12-thread chip into the U-series family, the Core i7-10710U. That processor will feature a base clock of 1.

Intel ' s next-generation Comet Lake processor is said to be an evolution of the Skylake Thanks to information gleaned from Intel ’ s new Linux drivers, we’re starting to learn more about the company’ s Comet Lake - S , which is believed to based on the Skylake micro-architecture, will utilize a 14nm

Although IFA 2019, Europe's largest consumer tech show, doesn't start until Sept. 6, Dell is already getting its big news out. The company's top ultraportable laptop, the XPS 13, will be updated with Intel's 10th-gen 14nm processors, including a six-core Intel Core i7-10710U. In fact, most of Dell's Inspiron lineup will be flipped to the new chips as well.

To be clear, these are not the 10th-generation 10nm Ice Lake Core processors that you'll find in Dell's XPS 13 two-in-one, the world's first Project Athena-verified laptop. Instead, these are 14nm Comet Lake CPUs that include the aforementioned six-core i7 and a speed bump in supported memory up to LP4x-2933, LPDDR3-2133 and DDR4-2666 (the XPS 13 uses up to 16GB DDR3 2,133MHz). Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 3 are in the supporting chipset, unlike Ice Lake, which incorporates those into the CPU die.

Dell's XPS 13 now comes with the latest Intel 10th-gen processors

Dell's XPS 13 now comes with the latest Intel 10th-gen processors Intel has unveiled its 10th-gen Core processors for ultraportable laptops, so naturally, there are some new laptop announcements, too. Probably the best known ultraportable is Dell's XPS 13, and that model can now be purchased with Intel's 10th-generation, six-core U-series Core i7 CPUs, Dell announced. While these aren't the 10-nanometer chips you might have been waiting for, Intel has promised overall speed gains in the realm of 16 percent compared to 9th-gen CPUs. The new XPS 13 also packs the Killer AX1650 2x2 Intel WiFi 6 chipset, boosting WiFi speeds by up to three times.

Intel ' s future architecture for the Core Series Comet Lake , and Atom' s range of products, Elkhart Lake , will be released by the end of the year. Comet Lake will still be a generation that is fabbed at 14 nm. Rumors suggest that the top model for the desktop will be a chip with ten cores and twenty threads.

The Dell XPS 13 has been a regular of our best laptops list for years, and the 2019 model is no exception. The Dell XPS 13 rocks an 8th-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and a bezel-less ‘Infinity Edge’ display, this Dell XPS 13 continues to be the most popular Windows laptop in the world.

A few simple tweaks make the Dell XPS 13 a near-perfect laptop

The current XPS 13 is our favorite ultraportable laptop due to its overall design, features, performance and lengthy 12-hour battery life. The new six-core processor should help it retain its title as "the most powerful 13-inch laptop in its class" by boosting its speed while still letting us work through a flight or binge-watch shows from morning to night.

The updated Dell XPS 13 will be available Aug. 27.

Several of Dell's Inspiron laptops will be updated with the new 10th-gen Comet Lake processors and joined by a new Inspiron 14 7000. Though the Inspiron models don't typically have the premium touches of the XPS line, the 14 7000 is build from lightweight magnesium alloy to keep its weight under 2.5 pounds (1.1 kg). An updated hinge design lets you open it one-handed and there's a new lid sensor, so the laptop will boot the instant you lift the lid.

Most laptops today are powered by an Intel CPU, though there are several models that use AMD processors. Other AMD chips that are non-Ryzen are less capable than a modern Core i5 or Core i7 and should only be considered when getting a very low price, rather than strong performance is your

Other upscale touches include a fingerprint reader, narrow bezels around its 14-inch FHD display -- available with or without touch -- and a 100% sRGB color gamut. It'll be available with an optional Nvidia GeForce MX250 discrete GPU, too.

The new Inspiron 14 7000 is currently expected to be available in October.

Lenovo just launched its first Project Athena notebook, powered by Intel’s next-gen processors.
Intel a few days ago unveiled the new Comet Lake 10th-gen chips that will power all sorts of notebooks later this year. Siblings of the Ice Lake processors that Intel unveiled earlier this year, Comet Lake chips will bring support for more cores, more RAM of the faster and more efficient variety, as well as faster Wi-Fi 6 support. These chips will power a special set of laptops that Intel certifies under the “Project Athena” program that was announced back at CES 2019. Project Athena machines are supposed to be ultraslim, light devices that feature all-day battery life, always-on internet, and AI support.
