TechnologyApple re-fixes a bug that let users jailbreak iPhones
Apple will launch 3 new iPhones with 5G compatibility in 2020, according to a reliable Apple-watcher
Apple-watcher Ming-Chi Kuo says 3 iPhones with 5G will help Apple to compete against cheap Chinese phones.
Apple fixed a vulnerability that temporarily allowed hackers to jailbreak iPhones. The bug was first fixed in iOS 12.3 but reintroduced in iOS 12.4. Hackers discovered the flaw earlier this month and shared a free public jailbreak just for the fun of it. Today, Apple released iOS 12.4.1, which should take care of the vulnerability once and for all.
This current update fixes a kernel vulnerability that would have allowed an attacker to "execute arbitrary code with system privileges" on an iPhone or iPad. Apple also mentioned Pwn20wnd, the hacker that released the public jailbreak. "We would like to acknowledge @Pwn20wnd for their assistance," the company wrote in a security update.
Apple bug mishap reportedly leads to iOS 12.4 jailbreak
The iPhone maker reintroduced a vulnerability it had previously fixed, according to Motherboard.
As you might remember from the early days of the iPhone, jailbreaking allows users to install third-party apps that aren't available through the App Store. But doing so also puts phones at risk of spyware. So, while the iOS 12.4 bug might have given us a trip down memory lane, you'll want to download iOS 12.4.1 as soon as possible.Apple
Apple tries to clear up Google's claims about iOS vulnerabilities.
Apple has taken issue with Google's findings about exploit-laden websites injecting malicious code into iPhones. Last week, Google published a blog post describing how a handful of hacked websites had taken advantage of an iOS vulnerability. Today, Apple shared a rebuttal. Apple reiterates that the vulnerabilities Google highlighted were fixed in February. It says the attack affected fewer than a dozen websites that were targeted at the Uighur community. Apple believes the website attacks were only operational for about two months, not two years, as the Google security researchers wrote. Apple reportedly fixed the issue within 10 days of learning about it.
