Walmart takes its $98 Delivery Unlimited service nationwide
Walmart began trialling its Delivery Unlimited service -- its grocery-based take on Amazon Prime -- at select locations earlier this year. Now, the company is rolling it out to a further 1,400 stores across all 200 metro areas where regular grocery delivery is already available. Walmart aims to have more than 50 percent of the country covered by the end of the year. The program gives customers the option to pay a yearly fee of $98, or a monthly fee of $12.95, to get unlimited Walmart grocery deliveries, although you still have the option of paying a per-delivery fee without membership. There's also a free 15-day trial on offer, if you're not sure.
Are you using a VPN ? You should be, especially if you frequently connect to public Wi-Fi networks on your phone, tablet or laptop. There are free options out there, but I agree with ZDNet's David Gerwitz that . Fortunately, a VPN doesn't have to be expensive -- at least if you take advantage of this deal. For a limited time, Cheapskate readers can get a with promo code SAVEVPN. That's the lowest price I've ever seen on this. If you were to buy it directly from developer KeepSolid, it would cost you $200. Note, however, that there are no refunds once you redeem your license.
Apple Arcade for iPhone: How to set up and play unlimited games
After you’ve grabbed iOS 13, you’re ready to sign up and start playing games on Apple’s new gaming service.
A VPN (virtual private network) can keep hackers at bay when you connect to open Wi-Fi networks -- like the one on the airplane or at Starbucks. It does so by making your connection less visible to the outside world. Without a VPN, a hacker could capture your login info when you sign into, say, your bank or Gmail account.
The subscription affords protection on up to five devices simultaneously, with support for all the major platforms: Android,, Linux, Mac and Windows. VPN Unlimited has servers in over 70 countries.
CNET hasn't reviewed it, which is why you won't find it on the otherwise comprehensive list of the . I've used it on occasion, while traveling, and found it perfectly reliable.
Amazon's latest Fire HD 10 tablet finally has a USB-C port
Amazon has just updated its most popular tablet with new internals. The company's latest Fire HD 10 tablet features a new octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz that's supported by 2GB of RAM. Amazon claims the updated processor makes the new Fire HD 10 30 percent faster than its predecessor. When it becomes available later this month, you'll be able to buy the Fire HD 10 in two configurations, outfitting the device with either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The two models will be priced at $149.99 and $189.99 respectively. If that's not enough space, you can add up to 512GB of additional storage with a microSD card.
However, while I'm no expert on the subject, I do know there are two key considerations when evaluating any VPN: speed and privacy. I tested the former while connected to my home network and got the below result.
As you can see, VPN Unlimited cut my download performance just about in half. Does that matter when you're starting at 100Mbps? Hardly. But if you're connecting to a public Wi-Fi network that's giving you only, say, 5Mbps? Then it might become a factor. It all depends on what you're doing when you're online. Email and web browsing? A 50% performance hit will likely go unnoticed. Streaming video? Maybe noticed.
The other concern is privacy: Does the VPN provider, itself, monitor your online activities? If so, to what end? My advice: Read, and do likewise for any other VPN you're thinking about using. I'll simply say this particular developer has been around for many years and offers a variety of products, not just this one. I'd be more suspicious of a one-trick-pony operation.
Google Pixel 4 buyers won’t get unlimited photo uploads at original quality
Google wants people to buy subscriptions to Google One insteadNowhere on the Pixel 4 site does it mention free storage at original quality, which was an incentive for the original Pixel, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3. Google didn’t extend it to the Pixel 3A and 3A XL, but that was understandable due to their much lower price point. The Pixel 4 starts at $799, and the XL version is $899. These aren’t cheap phones.
I like having VPN Unlimited on hand for those times when I connect to public Wi-Fi, and I definitely like this insanely low one-and-done pricing. Your thoughts?
