Google Home speakers can now make mobile calls, starting in Australia

Google Home speakers can now make mobile calls, starting in Australia For two years, Google Home users have been able to place calls from their smart speakers using the built-in VoIP functionality. From today that function is available using mobile service too, with Australian mobile provider Telstra becoming the first company to offer voice-activated calling via a mobile carrier. Telstra customers can link up to six mobile numbers to their Google Home and sync the contacts as well, letting them call anyone from their phone book using their Home device. To use voice calling with multiple numbers, they can set up Google Voice Match to identify voices and link them to a particular number and contact list.

Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the most well-known rock songs in the western world, and has been watched more than a billion times on YouTube alone. It's likely that pretty much everyone has had at least one crack at aping singer Freddie Mercury's unique vocal delivery. FreddieMeter is a collaboration between the band, Google's Creative Lab and the various record labels involved. It's been designed to analyze a person's voice to see how their pitch, timbre and melody comes in comparison to Mercury's own. At the end, you'll get a score between 0 and 100 to show off (or not) about how close you are to becoming one of rock's most enduring figures.

Google Assistant gets new voice options in nine more languages

Google Assistant gets new voice options in nine more languages Google Assistant users outside the US haven't had much choice when it comes to voice options -- until now, as Google launches a second voice for Assistant in French, German, Dutch, Japanese, Norwegian, Korean, Italian and English for India and the UK. The new voices have been built with DeepMind's WaveNet technology to help them sound natural, and will be displayed in settings as a color, rather than as a gender. Users selecting a voice in one of these languages will be able to choose from "orange" or "red," and when you set up Google Assistant for the first time you'll be randomly assigned one of them.

Some think that Disney is taking accountability for its past by showing those titles as they were shown back then with a warning attached. But critics point out that the wording used is vague at best -- Gayle Wald, head of American studies department at George Washington University, said the company

The company doesn't have much choice when the EU and other governments will require sounds in the name of pedestrian safety. At the same time, it' s evident that Ford is using this as a marketing opportunity. The creation of a unique sound could make Ford vehicles recognizable by sound alone

According to Google, FreddieMeter uses "new on-device machine learning models" and has been trained on Mercury's isolated vocals, as well as copycats. But Google says that for both Android and iOS users (it's also available on desktops), no data will be uploaded to the servers. There are four tracks to sing along to: Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Me Now, Somebody To Love and We Are The Champions.

The project will also encourage folks to make a donation to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which fights for HIV / AIDS-related causes worldwide. The charity was founded by the surviving members of Queen after Mercury's passing, and the FreddieMeter itself commemorates the band's first gig, in November 1975. And, if you're curious, your humble narrator scored 48 percent, which is better than the clip Google supplied of Howie Mandel's attempt.

Google Assistant is ready to find your Tile tracker .
As promised, Google Assistant can now help find your Tile trackers with very little effort. Link the Bluetooth gadget in the Google Home app, set up Voice Match in Assistant and you can ask the voice helper to locate your trackers (and hopefully, the items attached to them) using a simple sentence rather than adding a prefix like "ask Tile to" every time. You can tell Assistant to ring your keys or find your bag. This works on anyThis works on any Assistant-capable device, although you will need the Tile app on Android or iOS for the initial setup. While Assistant's support for Bluetooth trackers is still pretty slim (Chipolo is the only other brand we know to work at present), this is still a pretty big addition.
