UK introduces mandatory drone registration and pilot test
There have been calls for more regulation of drone flights in the UK, especially since drones caused chaos last Christmas at the country's second-busiest airport. Now, the UK's Civil Aviation Authority is requiring operators to register their drones. The registration system is a way to connect drones to their owners, both to return drones which get lost and to ensure that operators are flying their drones responsibly. The registration is cheap, at just £9 ($12), but operators will need to take an online education course and test as part of the process.

For Engadget readers, Wellbots is discounting the DJI Mavic 2 Pro to, down from $1,729. To take advantage of this deal, input the code "SAVEDCART20" at checkout. We gave the Mavic 2 series a score of when we reviewed the Pro and Zoom models last year. The highlight of the Pro variant featured in this promotion is a 1-inch CMOS sensor that allows it to capture better photos with less noise in low-light conditions. We liked that the Mavic 2 Pro was faster and had a longer-lasting battery than its predecessor. Another highlight was the variable aperture of the Pro's camera lens, which gives you more creative control when taking a photo. Our biggest issue with the drone was its expensive price tag, something this promotion addresses.
Segway's first electric dirt bikes arrive in early 2020
Segway-Ninebot technically makes electric vehicles that go outside, but now it has machines designed explicitly for outdoor expeditions. The company has introduced two Dirt eBike models, the X160 and X260, that are billed as crosses between conventional dirt bikes and mountain bikes. While we wouldn't call them radical departures from the norm, they can be customized using "standard motor parts" and use swappable batteries. The X160 is theThe X160 is the smaller bike meant for places where agility matters more than power. It only has an estimated 40.4-mile range and a 31.1MPH top speed, but it might be better for maneuvering on twisty trails thanks to its 17-inch wheels and overall more compact frame.

While we haven't reviewed either scooter, we highlighted the ES4 as part of awe published earlier this year. The ES4 stood out for us thanks to its top speed of 19 miles per hour and 28-mile range, in addition to its light 30-pound weight. Another nifty feature is that you can swap the battery at any time, allowing you to easily extend the range of the scooter. The Max, meanwhile, can travel up to 40 miles on a single charge. You can also fold it for easier storage, and its entire body is IPX5-certified water-resistant, allowing you to ride it through occasional showers.

Segway's S-Pod is a ridiculous lounge chair on wheels .
Yes, the Segway S-Pod looks a lot like the floating chairs that future humans use in Wall-E. Ok, that's out of the way. The Segway S-Pod is a vehicle designed for future smart cities, when cars are less common but folks still need to get around comfortably. The pod itself is suspended between two wheels, giving the entire chair a floaty feel when you're nestled in its suede seat. It's controlled with a flat, round joystick on the right armrest: press it in the direction you want to travel and release it to brake. Holding the joystick all the way in one direction makes the chair spin (whee!).
