FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth Water Department says some customers may have had their financial data breached.

The department says this affects about 3000 customers who made a one-time payment using the department's online payment web portal between August 27th and October 23rd.

"The vendor (CentralSquare) found that there had been malicious code that was added to their programming," says water department spokeswoman Mary Gugliuzza. "We got that removed, (and) we actually ended up replacing the entire server."

The department has already reached out to the affected customers and will be doing so again very soon.

"They will be getting another letter that will also include information on free 12 months of (credit) monitoring," says Gugliuzza.

Customers who use automatic withdrawal, who paid by phone or paid in person are not impacted
