Reuters reported Sunday that multiple Spanish media outlets, including Spain's second largest paper El Mundo, have confirmed Amazon will skip MWC 2020 "due to the outbreak and continuing concerns about the new coronavirus."

Amazon joins a number of big exhibitors that have already pulled out of the world's largest mobile trade show, including LG , Ericsson and Nvidia , citing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV. First disclosed in late December, the virus has infected over 37,000 people and killed over 800 as of Feb. 9. Companies including Apple , Google and Nintendo have closed offices, limited business travel and faced supply chain disruptions.

The GSMA, the organization that runs MWC, said it will have additional medical personnel on-site. It's also put other measures in place to reduce the risks posed by the disease, including a no-handshake policy.

Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Amazon is playing a direct role in COVID-19 relief beyond shipping essentials to people sheltering at home. Amazon Care, the division providing healthcare to company staff, is partnering with the Gates Foundation-backed Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network to deliver and pick up at-home COVID-19 testing kits as part of a trial. The number of kits will be limited, but should help widen testing for the virus without relying on conventional mail and courier deliveries. Every driver involved has been trained in handling medical material, Amazon told CNBC. The tests revolve around the familiar swabs used at drive-through testing locations.
