Here's Why Nintendo Canceled The NES Classic

Here's Why Nintendo Canceled The NES Classic Nintendo's plans to place the NES Classic Edition on hold were a surprise, but they make sense when you evaluate the company's current hardware strategy. When Nintendo last year released the NES Classic — the $60 reissue of its original Nintendo Entertainment System console —  the retro reboot immediately became a must-have holiday item. Stores were regularly out of stock, and consoles that got purchased often made it to the third-party seller market at substantial markups.

Nintendo has made a lot of odd decisions in their history. Discontinuing the NES Classic Edition is one of their worst decisions in my opinion. What are

With the discontinuation of the NES Classic, the classic controllers will also be discontinued, so get your hands on a second controller for your NES Classic while you can. As for third-party accessory makers, the NoA rep said production and distribution will be left up to each individual manufacturer.

The release of the NES Classic console was marred by shortages caused by Nintendo’s underestimation of the demand for the console. Hopefully, the rumored Super NES Classic console will happen and Nintendo will be ready for that console’s demand.

Nintendo is ramping up its production order of Switch consoles ahead of the increased demand expected during the 2017 holiday shopping season. The console sold extremely well following its launch in March, and it’s been difficult to find them in stores before they sell out. The Japanese gaming company already reportedly boosted its production order in March: TheWall Street Journalreported that the company was aiming to produce at least 16 million consoles this fiscal year. The company now appears to be aiming to manufacture at least 18 million units between now and March 2018, citing fears of “customer tantrums” during the holiday season.
