Technology Netflix to Remove Subscription from Inactive
Apple now lets some video streaming apps bypass the App Store cut
Amazon Prime Video was the latest to enter into the program earlier todayIn a statement given to The Verge, Apple said the program has been “established” for some time and designed for “premium” providers that allows those companies to use their own payment methods and exist outside the App Store’s standard financial ecosystem. The requirement: those platforms must be able to integrate core Apple services, apps, and features — including AirPlay 2, universal search and Siri support, and single or zero sign-on, among others.
Accounts As surprising as it may seem, users continue to pay for their Netflix subscription every month without ever taking advantage of the streaming service. The American group, which registers millions of new subscribers every month, has indicated that it will initiate a deactivation process for its customers who have not used the service for at least 12 months.
"At Netflix, the last thing we want is for people to pay for something they don't use," platform innovation director Eddy Wu said in a statement, adding that 'a message will be sent to all subscribers who are affected.
"We ask all those who have not watched anything on Netflix for a year after their registration to confirm that they wish to keep their subscription," wrote the American giant.
study: Companies waste money on Office 365 licensing
© Provided by Martin Geuss (Blog Dr. Windows) Microsoft Office A great advantage of subscription services like Office 365 is their flexibility. You never have to pay more licenses than you actually need, but can book and cancel at will, the subscription "breathes", so to speak, in harmony with the company. This is an important argument, especially in economically difficult times, which we are unfortunately headed for. If the workforce becomes smaller, the costs also decrease.
Allow "people to save money"
The platform has still specified that it will allow customers to re-register within ten months to keep their favorites, their profile and their display preferences.
Netflix, which will thus stop automatically withdrawing a sum from inactive accounts, explains this approach by the desire to position itself as a responsible company. "We hope that this new approach will save people the money they have so hard saved," said Eddy Wu.
Less than 0.5% of accounts are affected
By launching this campaign, Netflix said it does not expect a drastic drop in subscriber numbers. "These inactive accounts represent less than 0.5% of subscribers, or only a few hundred thousand," said Eddy Wu.
The company has already anticipated the fall in subscriptions linked to this campaign in its financial forecasts. As a reminder, the streaming platform has 183 million subscribers worldwide and generated sales of $ 5.8 billion in the first quarter of 2020.
