Technology Thanks to Bing and Microsoft Research: Microsoft launches new MSN Esports Hub
Esports tournament organizers ESL and DreamHack have merged
ESL and DreamHack, two of the biggest tournament organizers in esports, have merged. ESL co-CEOs Ralf Reichert and Craig Levine will lead the new company, which is called ESL Gaming. DreamHack CEO Marcus Lindmark will continue to run that brand’s gaming festivals, which take place across North America and Europe. Modern Times Group bought DreamHack in 2015 and it acquired a majority stake of ESL that same year. Until now, the two brands have mostly operated independently, but, as ESPN Esports notes, they’ve been sharing resources and helping each other out over the last couple of years.
While the Xbox team around Phil Spencer continues to keep an eye on the launch of the next generation of consoles with the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X and is also launching all sorts of innovations such as the new Xbox apps , the team behind Microsoft's search engine Bing announced a new offer for gamers and all fans of esports yesterday evening. Together with the researchers from Microsoft Research, the new MSN Esports Hub was launched, which not only draws data from Microsoft Bing but also from newly developed machine learning technologies from Microsoft Research.
NFL fines Raiders players for COVID violation at charity event
After already fining the Las Vegas Raiders twice for COVID-19 violations, the NFL is now imposing discipline on multiple Raiders’ players for attending teammate Darren Waller’s charity event without masks. © Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports The league launched an investigation last week after multiple Raiders’ players, including quarterback Derek Carr, were photographed without masks at The Darren Waller Foundation charity event in Henderson, Nev. On Monday, the NFL levied fines against all players who were at the fundraiser without masks.
According to their own statement, the teams worked for several years to develop the necessary technologies for the project. Microsoft Bing primarily contributes the data to fill the calendar with upcoming esports events and to show the most relevant news from the esports scene in the news. The researchers at Microsoft Research have meanwhile developed new models with which the AI can watch tens of thousands of streamers that are currently live in real time and list them on the site for fans. At the moment the largest platforms have been integrated with YouTube and Twitch, others such as Facebook Gaming are to follow. The teams are also working on improving the AI even further.
