A lot of almosts this week in Southeastern Conference football: Missouri almost toppled our top-ranked team; Ole Miss almost has us convinced; Alabama almost deserves to re-take the No.-1 spot; and Auburn almost didn't give away a game. It all translated to almost perfect power rankings:

Are polls getting the midterms wrong?

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday showed Republicans chipping into Democrats' edge in a weekly generic congressional ballot poll. The GOP trimmed the Democrats' lead to 45 percent vs. 43 percent, compared to 46 percent vs. 41 percent a week earlier. FiveThirtyEight still gives Democrats a 70 percent chance to hold onto control of the Senate. RealClearPolitics, however, projects that Republicans will seize control of the Senate, after factoring in past underestimates of GOP support.

What to know: If only the Hogs could bottle their third quarter against Alabama (won 16-0). Last time Alabama was treated worse in a quarter: LSU 23, Alabama 6 in the second quarter of a 46-41 Tigers win in 2019.

9. Florida
