Why the Jets will be just fine without Scheifele The Winnipeg Jets were dealt a huge blow Thursday afternoon, as head coach Paul Maurice confirmed Mark Scheifele's crash into the endboards versus the Edmonton Oilers was indeed as bad as it looked, Scheifele has developed into one of the best centerman in the NHL, and his 38 points and 20-plus minutes per night are, as linemate Blake Wheeler put it, "irreplaceable.

The best thing the NHL has ever done for the All-Star Game, whether you love it or hate it, has been the addition of the three-on-three tournament into the mix. Sure, the game doesn’t have as much meaning as it used to, but moulding the three-on-three overtime format to fit the staleness that has become the All-Star Game has added new life to the weekend.

Adding the format has given players like Wayne Simmonds of last All-Star Game the chance to shine, and it has given hockey fans some incredible moments in the process. With such a glut of talent on the ice, it’s no wonder we get better action and more creativity with all that extra space out there.

With the release of the upcoming rosters for the 2018 All-Star Game, we thought it’d be best to start dreaming up the most tantalizing three-on-three lineups we can possibly ice. Who knows if they’ll come true by the time the game rolls around on Sunday, Jan. 28, but let’s have some fun thinking about the lines we really want to see.

Atlantic Division

Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman

First and foremost, let’s get the Tampa Bay Trio out of the way. Considering Andrei Vasilevskiy also made the Atlantic Division squad, the All-Star Game may not look too dissimilar from a Lightning game at Amalie Arena. There’s a reason the Lightning have four players on this team, and Kucherov and Stamkos have 60 and 52 points respectively so far on the season. Hedman’s 33 points as a defenseman ain’t half bad either.

Winter provides the freedom to shape rosters in any number of ways, permitting teams to entertain a wide array of ideas about how to build their rosters.

The NHL announced Wednesday which players made the cut for the 2018 All - Star weekend. The skills competition will take place January 27 and the The two legendary stars now share a FIFA rating of 94, making them the best players in the association. However, Cristiano Ronaldo's marginally better

Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Erik Karlsson

Two of the NHL’s young stars in Matthews and Eichel pairing up with league veteran Karlsson would be a formidable line. Karlsson is perhaps the best offensive defenseman in the league and alongside two creative playmakers in Matthews and Eichel, opponents are likely going to have a bad time trying taking the puck away.

Steven Stamkos, Brad Marchand, Mike Green

The NHL’s youth get a lot of praise, as they should, but the league’s veterans aren’t slouches either. Stamkos and Marchand are NHL leaderboard staples, but fans outside of Detroit may not know who Green is. The defenseman has 24 points for the Red Wings this year and is on pace for one of his best seasons in recent memory. Not a bad bunch to put together at the end of the day.

Metropolitan Division

Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Claude Giroux

It will be a rare sight should all three Metropolitan Division stars play in this tournament, as we’ve never had a year where all of them have been on the All-Star roster! Sure, there’s no defensive pairing on this list, but giving the overall skill of Crosby, the shooting presence of Ovechkin, and Giroux’s playmaking should be a top priority.

League-leading Lightning get 4 All-Stars as they play host

League-leading Lightning get 4 All-Stars as they play host Winger Nikita Kucherov, defenseman Victor Hedman and Andrei Vasilevskiy will join Lightning captain Steven Stamkos at NHL All-Star Weekend in Tampa, Florida. The league announced the full All-Star rosters on Wednesday as selected by the NHL's hockey operations department. With four players on the Atlantic Division team, host and league-leading Tampa Bay has the most representatives for the skills competition and 3-on-3 tournament Jan. 27-28 at Amalie Arena.

Taylor Hall, Josh Bailey, Noah Hanifin

Hall is now a three-year All-Star veteran, and putting the talented New Jersey Devils forward alongside newcomers to the scene in Bailey and Hanifin seems almost perfect.

Sidney Crosby, John Tavares, Kris Letang

With Tavares’ contract coming up, the Penguins may just have a perfect opportunity to audition the New York Islanders’ captain for a spot on the team should things fall through on his end. Wink wink, nudge nudge, Pittsburgh.

Central Division

Nathan MacKinnon, Brayden Schenn, Blake Wheeler

Offense will not be in short supply for the Central Division, as this trio has some of the most potent scorers in the NHL. MacKinnon’s moves are near legend at this point and with Schenn’s net-front presence and Wheeler an assist machine, they’ll outscore opponents before defense is even needed.

Patrick Kane, Tyler Seguin, P.K. Subban

We are blessed for another year of Subban leading the Central Division as the team’s captain. Subban always makes events more fun with his mere presence alone, and who can forget Seguin’s ESPN duck shoot. All three players are masters of creativity and skill on the ice for their separate teams, and could make an incredible combination at the All-Star Game.

The final rosters still have to reflect at least one player from each NHL team, but each division will only have 11 players: six forwards, three defenseman With Matthews’ playmaking ability, Trocheck’s nose for the net, and Karlsson’s offensive prowess from the blue line , this line has the potential to wreak

Tyler Seguin, Eric Staal, John Klingberg

The Minnesota North Stars line. Too perfect to pass up, honestly.

Pacific Division

Connor McDavid, Johnny Gaudreau, Brock Boeser

Hello offense. McDavid’s overall explosiveness, Gaudreau’s creativity, and Boeser’s dynamic goal-scoring ability make for a line that’s sure to bring the heat. Maybe the NHL will let Gaudreau actually light his stick on fire for real this time.

Anze Kopitar, Rickard Rakell, Brent Burns

Much like the Metropolitan Division rivalry line, a Battle of California line is certainly needed. Burns is one of the league’s best set up men from the point, and Kopitar and Rakell’s two-way style of play could play keep-away from almost any opponent.

Connor McDavid, James Neal, Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Neal’s disruption tactics might just leave ample room for McDavid and Ekman-Larsson to go back and forth across the ice trading chances. Really, McDavid with anyone would make a great line opportunity, but Ekman-Larsson needs some love as the Arizona Coyotes lone choice. No better way to get acquainted than to put him with the league’s best.

NBA All-Star 2018: Predictions for East, West reserves (and this year's biggest snubs) .
With the starters set, attention now turns to the reserves who will fill out the rest of the NBA All-Star rosters. Which players deserve a spot? And who will be snubbed this year? The only real problem I had with the way the NBA All-Star starters vote turned out last week was the placement of Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins over the Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns. I thought the final frontcourt spot in the East was a tough call between Joel Embiid (who has missed nine games) and Andre Drummond, but given the way the two teams have played lately, Embiid was the right call.
