Snowboarder Shaun White's fourth Olympic appearance came down to one run at the U.S. Grand Prix in Snowmass, Colorado on Saturday. The two-time Olympic halfpipe gold medalist didn't disappoint.

He won the grand prix event with a stunning perfect 100 score - the second of his career - to clinch a spot on Team USA for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea in February.

White's winning run included a massive 1440 double cork on the first hit and two more 1260 double corks, including one on the last hit.

The contest hadn't seen any rider score in the 90s until the final five runs. But then American Jake Pates, who won the Dew Tour in December, scored a 94 to move into first. James bested that with a switch backside 1260 on his final hit to score a 96.25, while 16-year-old Japanese rider Yuto Totsuka edged Pates with a 94.5.

After crashing on his first run, White soared with his signature amplitude and used his progressive riding to secure the win.

American Shaun White landed two jaw-dropping runs in qualifying for the men’ s halfpipe on Monday to advance to Tuesday’ s final. White scored a 93.25 in his first run , which would have been the third-best score of the day had he not topped it with an even more impressive second run .

White's qualification for the Olympics comes on the heels of a gruesome injury the snowboarder suffered in October. With serious injuries to his face, he said he needed 62 stitches and bruised his lungs.
