Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is being accused of racial discrimination. Newsome alleges that, in 2011, a noose was discovered hanging in an IT closet in the stadium. “That was disheartening because it was underwriting the toxic racial climate there because nothing was done.

In the petition, Newsome alleges that Cuban tried to "sweep under the rug" an incident from 2011 that saw him quietly dispose of a noose found in a closet across from his suite. Newsome, who is black, claims a contractor put the noose there and that Cuban threw it in the trash and didn't address it publicly.

Cuban and the Mavs have been under scrutiny since Sports Illustrated published an expose last month painting a picture of a "corporate culture rife with misogyny and predatory sexual behavior."

Newsome was hired in 2004 and throughout her 13 years working in sales for the company, she complained about racial discrimination, harassment, pay inequity, and bullying from her coworkers. She was fired last year, which she says was payback for an HR complaint she made in 2015 that included mention of the noose.
