Report: Carson Wentz likely to be ready for Week 1 Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz missed the end of the 2017 season and all of the ensuing championship run with a torn ACL. Some non-White-House Eagles’ news from @mortreport, who normally sounds cautious on injury timelines. But now, based on what he’s hearing, @mortreport said on ESPN’s NFL Live that he is “starting to believe that Carson Wentz is going to be ready for the opener.

A day no Eagles fan wants to go back to, even in their mind, is December 10, 2017. On that day, Carson Wentz went down with an ACL injury.

Wentz threw another touchdown to break the Eagles single season touchdown record after tearing his ACL. News came out within 24 hours that he was out for the rest of the season.

With th

e benefit of hindsight, we know the season ended up fine. (Understatement of the century?) At the time though, the general attitude of most fans was nothing short of hopelessness.

The Eagles' fearless leader was gone in the middle of a legitimate MVP campaign. He tore his ACL so late in the season that the fear was he might not make it back in time for the first week of the 2018 season.

Can Carson Wentz ' s ACL recovery rival Adrian Peterson ' s legendary 2012 return ? Darren Sproles returns . Seeing Sproles back on the field will quickly bring a smile to Pederson’ s face. Having Sproles in the offense is almost like a cheat code because of the mismatches he presents.

From the very beginning, Wentz said he would be back by Week 1. However, that's exactly what everyone says when a player goes down.

What else are they going to say?

Reports have been positive all throughout his recovery process, with Ian Rapoport ladt month reporting that Wentz's mechanics haven't suffered at all.

Wentz is progressing along extremely quickly. Two weeks ago, he was only doing individual drills.

Earlier this week, the final week of OTAs, Wentz was cleared to participate in 7-on-7's, just six months after tearing both his ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Now, of course Wentz isn't taking hits yet, but his progress is "shockingly ahead of schedule" according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Mortensen is known for being extremely conservative in his injury reports, so for him to say with confidence that Wentz is ahead of schedule is a big deal.

He said, "from people inside [the Eagles organization] who were somewhat skeptical, I am hearing that he's not just ahead of schedule - he's WAY ahead of schedule."

Thirty years ago, an ACL tear was a likely career-ending injury. Nowadays, with advances in modern medicine, the expectation is for players to come back in a year. In 2012, running back Adrian Peterson became legendary for his quick ACL recovery. Peterson tore his ACL on Christmas Eve in 2011. After an almost unbelievable recovery, Peterson ended up leading the league in rushing in 2012, rushing for more than 2,000 yards and winning the league MVP award.

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer had a career year in 2015 at the age of 34 years old after tearing his ACL in 2014 for the second time in his career.

Jason Kelce, the Eagles very own center, came back from an ACL tear and was named the best center in the league by Pro Football Focus the year after his injury.

Tom Brady came back from a torn ACL in 2008 and has been arguably the best quarterback in the league since his return.

All of these examples can give Eagles fans hope that the reports of Wentz coming back stronger and better than ever before probably aren't just false platitudes. The average NFL player is cleared to hit the field a year after an ACL tear.

Wentz eager to return, but Foles allows Eagles to wait

Wentz eager to return, but Foles allows Eagles to wait Carson Wentz is eager to return to the field and reclaim his starting spot for the Philadelphia Eagles but he doesn't have to rush because Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is still around. Wentz has a mission to return for Week 1 and is already ahead of schedule after being cleared for 7-on-7 work last week. Still, he has a way to go before he is cleared for full activity.

If Carson Wentz starts Week 1 of the 2018 season, it will be almost nine months to the day. If Wentz does come back, and is in fact better than before, he will join Adrian Peterson as a legendary figure and a benchmark for other players trying to recovery from ACL injuries.
