Taiwan searches for missing F-16 fighter jet

Taiwan searches for missing F-16 fighter jet Taiwan's air force said Monday it was searching for an F-16 fighter jet that went missing at the start of annual live-fire drills. The single-seat jet disappeared off the radar over mountainous terrain in the northeastern county of Keelung at 13:43 pm (0543 GMT), 34 minutes after take off, the air force said in a statement. It added that it was making "all efforts" to search for the missing pilot, Major Wu Yen-ting.Wu was also involved in the last F-16 accident in Taiwan, in 2013, when he parachuted to safety following a suspected mechanical failure.

The New York Jets have invested too much in Sam Darnold to rush him onto the field in 2018, and the former USC star may not even be on the active roster in Week 1 if he does not beat out Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown for the starting job.

The Jets are holding an open competition at the QB position this summer, and many assume Darnold will be the team’s No. 2 option if he isn’t named the starter. However, as ESPN’s Rich Cimini notes, it makes no sense to have Darnold serve as the backup on game day if the Jets feel he is not ready to start.

Sam Darnold getting the buzz, but young defense may be Jets' best bet for success in 2018

Sam Darnold getting the buzz, but young defense may be Jets' best bet for success in 2018 Rookie QB Sam Darnold is getting all the buzz this spring, but defense led by Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams may be Jets' best bet to get out of last place. To cope, the New York Jets have pasted two decals in the lower left corner of each locker's nameplate. One has the silhouette of the respective player's home state, and the other is his college's logo.

Jets LB Darron Lee was ruled inactive by coach Todd Bowles ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Jets have consistently said they don't want to throw their No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold into the fire this season .

New York Daily News Jets insider Manish Mehta wrote in his 'Mehta's Jets Mailbag' that No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold has a "great chance" to open the season as the While there's no debate that Darnold is the future, if he can learn a pro offense and outplay the journeyman McCown this summer

If Teddy Bridgewater is the opening-day starter for the Jets in Detroit, it makes sense to have an experienced and capable quarterback such as McCown as the No. 2. A Bridgewater-McCown tandem gives them a better chance than Bridgewater-Darnold to win that game. I don’t think it’s even up for debate. It would be a tall order for a rookie to come off the bench in Week 1, especially in a prime-time game.

I could see coach Todd Bowles sticking with Bridgewater-McCown (or McCown-Bridgewater) until Darnold is ready to play. At that point, he can make the jump from No. 3 to No. 1.

The Los Angeles Rams took a similar approach with Jared Goff in his rookie season, and that worked out in the long run. Although, Goff struggled mightily in limited action in his second season and didn’t break out until the Rams brought in Sean McVay as head coach.

You might be surprised to hear who is supposedly leading New York’s QB competition early on, but it isn’t shocking that Darnold is no lock to be active in Week 1. We have seen the Jets throw rookie QBs to the wolves too many times only to see it not work out. Making the same mistake with Darnold could be devastating for the franchise.

Jets may have an unlikely star running back on the roster .
The Jets have several running backs with names that hard-core football fans instantly will recognize: Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell, Thomas Rawls. The team’s running backs coach thinks another running back on the depth chart may become a household name. Stump Mitchell believes Elijah McGuire could perform like one specific Hall of Famer.“He has the skill set to be a LaDainian Tomlinson, if he was given that opportunity,” Mitchell said recently, via the New York Post. “That’s not what presents itself to him at this point in time. The skill set, he can do it all.
