Return to Wrigley Field could be 'huge' for Northwestern football

Return to Wrigley Field could be 'huge' for Northwestern football Northwestern safety Brian Peters intercepted Eddie McGee's pass and sprinted to the forbidden east end zone at Wrigley Field. Peters had planned to do something crazy if he scored a touchdown against Illinois in the first football game at Wrigley Field in 40 years. He told Williams he might celebrate by throwing the ball up and making a catch like an outfielder against the padded wall in right field. So Williams set out to save his team 15 yards.

Now, with new renovations, a Wrigley Field bowl game could be coming. Football will return to Wrigley Field in November of 2020 , Cubs President Crane Kenney told the Tribune, with Northwestern’s hosting multiple Big Ten games the team’s “first priority.”

Keep ‘em comin’.

Bad news for folks who like to complain about there being too many football games available on TV in mid-December: there will probably be more soon.

The NCAA placed a cap on new bowl games until 2020, but here’s a peek at the new games we’ll have that year, according to Brett McMurphy:

Based on recommendations by the NCAA’s Competition Committee, there are expected to be three new bowl games added for...

McMurphy reports a Chicago game at Wrigley Field between the ACC and Big Ten is expected, an idea we’ve been excited about for a long time. It’d also end the B1G’s tie with the Foster Farms Bowl, per the report, finally giving the conference a less far-flung bowl destination and another bowl in the actual Midwest.

Jason Heyward's walk-off grand slam lifts Cubs to 7-5 win over Phillies

Jason Heyward's walk-off grand slam lifts Cubs to 7-5 win over Phillies Cubs manager Joe Maddon seemed puzzled when assessing the statistics of Phillies All-Star candidate Aaron Nola, who had allowed all four home runs to right-handed hitters. Anthony Rizzo changed that trend, as he pulled a home run over the right field wall in the second inning as the Cubs surged to a three-run lead over the Phillies.

Cubs want to start bowl game at Wrigley Field in 2020 @TeddyGreenstein reports. No bowls can be added before 2019. Fans instantly go from thinking about San Diego, Phoenix, San Antonio, New Orleans, Miami, Boca Raton, Bahamas and then Wrigley , Pinstripe, and Potato are all buzzkill.

See Inside Wrigley Field 's New All-Inclusive Club. According to multiple reports, the Cubs are hoping to bring Northwestern back for a home football game as soon as 2020 , and in addition to that, they are aiming to establish an annual bowl game at the Friendly Confines

A mid-major game in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is also likely, McMurphy reports.

If three are added and the current 40 remain, that’d take us to 84 of 130 FBS teams making bowls each season (not 86, since two of these teams would then meet in the title game). We’d almost certainly be dipping into multiple 5-7 teams entering the postseason each year. The haters would be beside themselves over players getting to take trips and receive small gifts while playing with their teammates one last time, but actually, every bowl game is good.

Starting a bowl game is actually a pretty simple process, in case you’ve ever wondered. The hardest part is coming up with a sufficiently silly name.

DNC moves up 2020 convention dates to mid-July .
The Democratic National Committee announced it will host the 2020 nominating convention before the start of the 2020 Summer Olympics. "The Democratic Party is committed to organizing everywhere, and holding the convention in mid-July allows us to continue our work doing exactly that," Chairman Tom Perez said in a statement."My priority is to ensure that the 2020 nominating process is the most open, fair, transparent and inclusive in our party's history. That is exactly why the DNC has started this process early and before we have a full slate of candidates running for president.
