After spending north of 30 years as a head coach in the NBA, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Larry Brown is taking his talents to Italy.

The EuroLeague announced on Wednesday that Brown has agreed to become the head coach of the Italian club Fiat Torino. For someone that has been around the college and NBA ranks since 1965, this is the 77-year-old Brown’s first ever venture overseas.

“The choice of coach Brown was born, above all, from the consideration of a unique combination of quality, talent, and culture of basketball, that makes him a brilliant coach,” Torino vice president Francesco Forni said, via Eurohoops.net. “We are sure that he will help to promote the passion of the sport we love in Turkin and beyond and that he will be a formidable tool for the development of skills of our staff.”

Brown’s last experience as a head coach was with Southern Methodist from 2012-16. He posted a 94-39 record in four seasons and led the program to the NCAA Tournament back in 2015.

From a college basketball standpoint, Brown is best known for leading the Kansas Jayhawks to the 1987-88 national championship.

Having coached nine different NBA teams throughout an illustrious career, Brown-led teams earned 22 playoff appearances and two conference championships during that time. His contentious relationship with Allen Iverson when coaching the Sixers made worldwide headlines at the turn of the century.
