Newcastle didn’t just lose their Premier League opener on Saturday. There’s a good chance they lost right back DeAndre Yedlin for a while as well.

Saturday, Rafael Benítez saw his side fall 1-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in their opener. But just before stoppage time in the second half, Yedlin would suffer a serious-looking knee injury.

Ligament damage? Quite possibly. A hyperextended knee? It looks worse than that. We don’t know yet.

It’s not as though Yedlin put in a good performance Saturday, but that’s not the point. This is unfortunate on multiple levels.

For starters, injuries are never good and there’s never a good time for them. Secondly, Yedlin has become a regular for Newcastle. Not only that, but he’s become a Premier League regular after appearing in 34 PL matches last season. He would’ve gone the full 90 minutes today. And lastly, this is a major blow to the United States Men’s National Team. He’s a regular there as well.

Hopefully this is a case where the injury just looks more serious than it is. Per Yahoo’s Henry Bushnell, Rafa doesn’t know how severe the injury is.

'We're Not Signing Anyone': Sceptical Newcastle Fans Pour Scorn on Reported Interest in Ligue 1 Star Newcastle United fans sound less than impressed with the claim - tweeted by football writer Robin Bairner - that their club could be interested in signing Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.According to Bairner, Jullien is also coveted by Southampton and Everton and could be available for what he calls the 'bargain' price of €10m. The 25-year-old centre back has made 69 league appearances for Toulouse, scoring five goals.

“It’s too early to know. We have to wait for the doctor to assess and decide.”

Rafa did have more to say, but it would be more of the same via ESPN.

“It is still too soon to know for sure. There is a problem with his knee, but we need to wait. The doctor has to assess him properly.”

Newcastle are comig off a 10th-place PL finish. And in the meantime, hopefully Yedlin will be back soon.
