LONDON — England's World Cup satisfaction has been punctured by Spain on its homecoming.

For the first time in 30 years, England has lost three matches in a row. The English hadn't even lost a competitive fixture at home in 11 years when Ultimately, England is still lacking technically gifted midfielders with enough big-game experience, while Spain could deploy Saul, Isco and Thiago Alcantra.

Shaw was taken off at the start of the second half after a serious-looking injury. Shaw and Spain defender Dani Carvajal were challenging for the ball. Shaw connected with a header but collided with Carvajal, fell backward and his head bounced off the ground.

Shaw was making his first England start since facing Switzerland in September 2015, a week before his double leg break while playing for United.

OTHER GAMES

In another League A game — in Group 2 — Switzerland routed Iceland 6-0.

In League B, Bosnia-Herzegovina won 2-1 at Northern Ireland.

In League C games, Finland beat Hungary 1-0 and Greece won in Estonia by the same score.

In League D — the lowest tier — Belarus thrashed San Marino 5-0 and Luxembourg swept aside Moldova 4-0.

Spanish federation refuses request for league game in Miami .
A person with knowledge of the decision says the Spanish soccer federation has refused to approve the league's request to play a regular-season match in the United States.The person told The Associated Press that the federation sent a letter to league officials stating its refusal to authorize the playing of a competitive match between Barcelona and Girona on Jan. 26 in Miami. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the person is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
