Report: ‘Shocked’ teams did not know Porzingis was available The New York Knicks appear to have engaged in a fairly rushed process to trade star forward Kristaps Porzingis. According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, rival teams have made it quite clear that they were “shocked” that Porzingis was available, and it appears that few teams were really able to reach out to the Knicks before the big man was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. Porzingis fallout: Some bewilderment coming from several teams who were shocked Porzingis was available. Becoming very clear the Knicks did little in the way of league-wide canvassing for offers before moving KP to Dallas.

NBA rumors: Rival exec believes Knicks have been told Kevin Durant is coming. Kevin Durant is the clear top priority for the Knicks and conventional wisdom suggests New York wouldn't part ways with Porzingis unless they were pretty confident in their chances to win the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.

The New York Knicks' stunning trade this week of Kristaps Porzingis has led some rival NBA executives to believe the team has a level of certainty that it will sign Kevin Durant this summer, according to Bleacher Report's Howard Beck.

"It means they're pretty sure they're getting KD," one anonymous executive said.

The Knicks could have up to $75 million in salary cap space this summer following Thursday's trade, which jettisoned Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks for three players and two draft picks, including the expiring contracts of DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews.

New York has been a rumored landing spot for Durant should he opt out of the last year of his contract with the Golden State Warriors this summer to become an unrestricted free agent.

Some are still shocked by the Porzingis trade. While there had been reports the 7-foot-3 forward was not happy with the current trajectory of the Knicks, few expected the team to part ways with the potential franchise cornerstone so early in his career.

"It's never happened," a veteran executive told Beck. "Teams have given up unprotected picks. But no one's ever traded an established star, an established commodity, just to clear money."

The Knicks are so terrible the only thing left to sell Kevin Durant on is the chance to save the franchise Kevin Durant caught flack for signing with the greatest regular-season team in NBA history. And if he’s looking for approval from those critics, Durant could do the exact opposite with the Knicks. Maybe that’s part of the appeal. The Knicks won’t finish with the worst record we’ve ever seen in the league (not unless they drop the rest of their games), but the losing has already reached historic proportions. Heading into Saturday’s game against the Raptors at the Garden, the Knicks had dropped 15 straight – one off the franchise record set during the 2014-15 campaign under Derek Fisher. They had already broke the team record for consecutive defeats at home with 15.

Those close to Durant believe he’ ll sign with the Knicks , according to an ESPN report by Ian Begley detailing how the team may play the draft. Durant , 30, has faced free agency questions all season and swiftly shot them all down, telling reporters to focus on the game not what goes on behind it.
