Report: White Sox, Phillies respective 'heavy favorites' for Machado, Harper

Report: White Sox, Phillies respective 'heavy favorites' for Machado, Harper With Spring Training fast approaching, the top two free agents in baseball still don't have a team. But both Manny Machado and Bryce Harper have drastically narrowed down their list of suitors. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, it's more of a matter of when the pair will sign than where they will end up, as Manny Machado is likely to land with the Chicago White Sox and Bryce Harper is most likely destined to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. Three weeks remain until position players report to spring training and little has changed the last month.

The San Francisco Giants have just recently found themselves as a late entry in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes.

It was noted earlier in February that the Giants and Harper met in the former MVP’s hometown of Las Vegas — a report that was backed up by the Giants’ brass.

Now, with spring training set to get going here soon, it looks like the Giants are in fact favored to land Harper.

Not only is BetOnline favoring Harper to the Giants at +100, its putting said odds at 50 percent.

San Francisco is highly unlikely to offer the 10-year, $300 million deal Harper is seeking. Though, the team could very well offer him a higher average annual salary on a short-term deal.

Report: Padres leaning toward Bryce Harper over Manny Machado

Report: Padres leaning toward Bryce Harper over Manny Machado As the long winter of MLB free agency rolls along without any real indication on where Bryce Harper and Manny Machado will land, the San Diego Padres reportedly have honed in on the former. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported Saturday that, “Padres ownership is said to view Bryce Harper as a business/marketing opportunity.” Heyman also noted the Padres “may now lean toward Harper over Machado” despite having a need at third base. Of course, the overriding issue is whether the Padres have deep enough pockets and are willing to land such a big fish.

Report: Giants odds-on favorites to land Harper

Report: Giants still in it, Phillies have 'tough road' to sign Bryce Harper.
Now that Manny Machado has reportedly agreed to a mega-deal with the San Diego Padres, teams still looking for a star have to be all-in on Bryce Harper. But according to Andy Martino of SNY the team most expect to sign Harper might not be as sure a thing as you’d think. The San Francisco Giants, who’ve stepped into the spotlight in recent weeks as an ardent suitor, are still trying to make it happen. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly facing “a tough road to get it done,” per Martino. Again, as reported yesterday, Phillies could step up to $326 million and increase their chances for Harper, but irs not clear yet if they’ll go that high.
