ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – On a day that was filled with good tidings as the Buffalo Bills trotted out their newest players, and Brandon Beane happily extolled their virtues, there was a brief interlude of irritation.

Clearly, the Antonio Brown fiasco from last Thursday night/Friday morning left a bitter taste in Beane’s mouth, and he did not pass on the opportunity Thursday to share his feelings.

It was revealed that, apparently, the main reason Brown didn’t want to be traded to Buffalo was because it was Buffalo. As in, the city that a panel of football agents who were questioned by Sports Illustrated deemed the least attractive in the NFL for their clients.

Defenseman Darnell Nurse and Zack Kassian also scored for Edmonton, which won its third straight in closing a five-game trip at 4-1-1.

During the offseason, a lot of players live in different cities anyway, mostly in Florida. Say what you want, but that is a hard core ride or die fan fan base.

“It was ignorant,” Beane said of the narrative. “Don’t speak about Buffalo if you don’t know what this city and what this fan base is like. It really pissed me off because it’s not true.”

As insomniacs may recall, late Thursday night, it looked as if the Bills were about to acquire Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the rumors on social media raged into the wee hours of the morning. But as Friday dawned, the deal fell through and both sides moved on.

That’s when the age-old negativity about Buffalo surfaced, and it really struck a nerve with Beane. “It all started with a bad rumor on the Antonio Brown thing,” he said. “People looking for a reason and they didn’t have all the facts.”

“We didn’t have that narrative,” Beane said, referring to the talks with the newest Bills.

One of the new players, center Mitch Morse, knew of the situation with Brown and what was said about Buffalo, and he looked out at reporters and said, “That’s gotta tick you off a bit, doesn’t it?”

He then said of his first day in Buffalo, “I was extremely excited when I heard that Buffalo was in the mix. I was just looking forward to being a part of a team that really cares about the players. It’s gotta be frustrating for you all because I’ve been here 24 hours and it’s a fantastic town and I’m looking forward to making it my home for quite some time.”

Morse and wide receivers John Brown and Cole Beasley were both greeted at the airport by a couple of guys armed with welcoming chicken wings, which each appreciated, especially Beasley.
