Leave it to the NCAA to cause confusion over its own rule enforcement at the Final Foir.

Virginia guard Kyle Guy announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend, Alexa Jenkins, in February of last year. With their wedding set for August, the couple did what many soon-to-be-married couples do and set up a wedding registry.

Guy and Jenkins had a page on Crate & Barrel, but the registry was taken down after Jenkins and Guy said the NCAA informed them that the gifts would constitute a potential rules violation.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday at the Final Four, Guy said that it was "crazy" to him that the registry was illegal.

Nicolas Cage & New Bride Agree Shotgun Wedding Was a Mistake, She Won’t Contest Annulment Nicolas Cage quickly realized that his marriage to Erika Koike was not a great idea, and we’re told his new bride agrees and does not plan on fighting the annulment. Sources close to the situation tell The Blast that Cage believes the entire ordeal is a “mistake.” As The Blast first reported, the star filed to end the marriage with his new wife less than a week after their “wedding.” As for what happened in the four days since Cage and Koike tied the knot, we’re told the “National Treasure” star is not going to publicly address the issue and has already asked that the court seal his filing.

Yet, NCAA president Mark Emmert denied that Guy was told to take down his wedding registry. He told reporters that players are allowed to have wedding registries and plans to get to the bottom of the confusion.

Via richmond.com:

"Nobody in the NCAA said anything of the sort," Emmert said. "We don't know what the source of that info was, whether it was from the team."

Emmert said gifts from family and friends at a wedding are not against NCAA rules.

"We reached out to the institution to find out what transpired," Emmert said. "That's an inaccurate story."

Despite Emmert's denial, the wedding registry's URL on Crate & Barrel currently shows an error page. Someone told them to remove the registry.

The possible gray area in Emmert's remarks, though, fall with in the "family and friends" designation. If the registry is public, anyone - like a Virginia fan - could purchase gifts for their registry. That could by why Jenkins said she was told to make the registry private - possibly to limit the access to wedding guests.

Either way, this is easily the weirdest controversy to come out of the Final Four. The NCAA makes billions of dollars off these unpaid players' efforts - let Guy and Jenkins have their dinette set.
