Warriors’ Steve Kerr on Lakers: ‘I feel bad for everybody involved’

Warriors’ Steve Kerr on Lakers: ‘I feel bad for everybody involved’ LOS ANGELES — In August, when NBA schedules were announced, few were surprised that the league had put Warriors-Lakers as the marquee game on its Christmas Day and MLK Jr. Day showcases. This matchup boasted arguably the three best players in the world, state bragging rights, two major media markets and numerous storylines. But while Golden State has done its part to validate the NBA hype machine, the Lakers have massively underachieved. With a week left in the regular season, the Lakers have given up on a playoff berth, opting to sit LeBron James (groin), Brandon Ingram (shoulder), Lonzo Ball (ankle) and Josh Hart (knee) the rest of the way.

The Golden State Warriors didn't have to work up too much of a sweat in their efforts to dispatch the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 1 of their first-round postseason series Saturday. That doesn't mean, however, that Steve Kerr and Co. don't have a few headaches to deal with as they chase an ever-elusive 16-0 run through the NBA Playoffs and a third straight championship.

The elephant in the room? The man who no longer wants to be called Boogie. And to hear Kerr tell it, don't get too excited about a rotation heavy on DeMarcus Cousins in crunch time.

Cousins leads Warriors past Pelicans; Curry leaves hurt DeMarcus Cousins had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors defeated the Pelicans 112-103 on Tuesday night in a game that saw guard Stephen Curry leave with a mild foot sprain. The Warriors announced that Curry, who played the first nine minutes of the game, was held out the rest of the night as a precaution. Golden State, which already had clinched the top playoff seed in the Western Conference, also played without several other prominent players, including forward Kevin Durant, who was listed out with an illness, and guard Klay Thompson, who was given an opportunity to rest his sore right knee.

The Golden State Warriors are set to get DeMarcus Cousins back from injury and we evaluated the roster, and new-look starting lineup . Just prior to when the target date for Cousins to get back on the floor was revealed, Warriors coach Steve Kerr offered a positive outlook on the 28-year-old big man.

As crazy as it sounds, the Warriors really area a better team from an efficiency standpoint with the "Hamptons Five" grouping of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green than they are with any lineup that includes Cousins. It's not rocket science-- Cousins has never been a top-quality defender, and he's been downright poor on that end of the floor since making his way back from an Achilles injury.

Cousins hopes to shed 'Boogie' nickname: 'I just wanna be DeMarcus'

Cousins hopes to shed 'Boogie' nickname: 'I just wanna be DeMarcus' After 565 career outings, DeMarcus Cousins will finally make his postseason debut Saturday evening when his Golden State Warriors take on the visiting Los Angeles Clippers. With the big moment coming into focus, the four-time All-Star says he's looking to leave a notable aspect of his persona in the past. "I don’t want to be 'Boogie,'" Cousins said in a piece by The Undefeated's Lonnae O'Neal. "I just wanna be DeMarcus." O'Neal's piece details the two prevailing stories behind Cousins' well-known nickname - the truth (that then-Kentucky assistant coach Rod Strickland described the big man's movements as having "boogie") and the myth (that Cousins had gotten into a physica

Seriously, whose spot does the big man deserve? Certainly not the one belonging to Green, the defensive linchpin of the entire team. And Iguodala? He has been generally hibernating over the last couple regular seasons, but absolutely cranks it up for the playoffs. Most importantly, he can make a difference for the Dubs without needing the ball, something Cousins can't say for himself.

And it doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.
