Without Doncic, Mavericks stun Thunder 106-103

Without Doncic, Mavericks stun Thunder 106-103 The Dallas Mavericks, playing without star rookie Luka Doncic, stunned the Oklahoma City Thunder 106-103 on Sunday. Jalen Brunson had 18 points, Devin Harris added 15 and Dirk Nowitzki - playing perhaps his final game in Oklahoma City - grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds to go with seven points for the Mavericks, who were 3-17 over their previous 20 games.

Paul George has a small freshwater pond behind his house in Oklahoma City that he stocks with bass, crappie and bluegill. “There’ s so much that players have to deal with that I don’t think people quite recognize. A lot of them are the same issues that everybody else deals with.

Paul Clifton Anthony George (born May 2, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Thunder and Blazers are two teams looking to recover from embarrassing first-round defeats last year. The stars on each club especially are looking for redemption. Portland could breathe somewhat of a sigh of relief after Game 1's 104–99 win, ending a 10-game playoff losing streak.

Still, the Blazers need to prove their explosive backcourt can translate into postseason success, and Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are trying to reward the faith of a front office that refuses to break up the team. Russell Westbrook needs to show he can win without Kevin Durant, and win playing his wholly unique brand of basketball. And Paul George is trying to shake off the shame that comes with giving yourself the nickname “Playoff P” and then shooting terribly in an upset loss to a squad of upstarts.

Westbrook's triple-double lifts Thunder past Wolves 132-126

Westbrook's triple-double lifts Thunder past Wolves 132-126 Russell Westbrook had 27 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 132-126. Paul George also scored 27 points and Dennis Schroder had 14 of his 21 in the fourth quarter as the Thunder remained a half-game ahead of San Antonio for seventh place in the Western Conference. Karl-Anthony Towns led Minnesota with 35 points, while Andrew Wiggins scored 24 and Dario Saric added 23. Tyus Jones scored 10 points and tied his career high with 13 assists for.

The Thunder began recruiting Paul George to stay in OKC from the moment he arrived last year. Word of the party starts circulating around Oklahoma City immediately, with most people curious -- and In the rare time that it was a good thing, it felt as if Westbrook and George were the only two

George looked well on his way to redeeming himself this season. He was the third banana in the MVP race for much of the year, contributing lockdown defense on one end of the floor and lights-out shooting on the other. When George was at his best, he was basically shooting at Steph Curry levels of efficiency, the Thunder had the best defense in the NBA and OKC appeared to be a lock for a top-four seed in the West. Then, George injured his shoulder during a Feb. 26 game against the Nuggets, and the stats paint a bleak picture of what happened next.

From the start of the regular season through Feb. 25, George shot 40.2% on 9.7 three-point attempts per game. He shot 40.6% on catch-and-shoot threes, and an absurd 40.5% on pull-ups. PG was absolutely deadly from the outside, and his marksmanship covered up flaws everywhere else on the floor. With his pull-up falling at such an absurd clip, it didn’t matter that the Thunder’s spacing comes and goes, or that Westbrook was having an awful shooting season. Through Feb. 25, OKC had a 9.9 net rating with George on the floor (which is higher than what the first-place Bucks finished with this season.)

George will still be due for free agency next summer, and he had informed the Pacers that his preferred destination was the Los Angeles Lakers. In any case, George ’ s move to Oklahoma City only added more luster to the Western Conference while further diluting the quality of the Eastern Conference.

From the night of his injury, however, the Thunder’s season pivoted in a different direction. George connected on only 33.8% on threes from Feb. 26 onward. His catch-and-shoot percentage dipped to 38.3%, and his pull-ups cratered all the way to 28.4%. Before the shoulder trouble, George was shooting (a probably unsustainable) 45.3% on what NBA.com described as tightly defended threes. After, he shot only 30.8%. As George’s numbers dipped, so did the Thunder. OKC’s net rating with PG on the floor was only 2.7 post-injury, which would have fallen outside of the top-10 teams in the regular season. The Thunder slipped to the sixth seed, and that’s how they found themselves on the road to start the playoffs.

George is the Thunder’s most important player. He overtook Westbrook this season thanks to his two-way dominance. Westbrook’s inefficiency prevents him from being a clear-cut, tier-one superstar. George was pushing through that barrier for much of the season, and now, apparently barely able to lift his shoulder above his head, he’s supposed to be leading OKC in the postseason.

Trail Blazers win Game 1 against Thunder 104-99

Trail Blazers win Game 1 against Thunder 104-99 The third-seeded Portland Trail Blazers opened their playoff series against the No. 6 Oklahoma City Thunder with a 104-99 victory on Sunday. Enes Kanter added 20 points and a career playoff-high 18 rebounds for the Blazers, who were making their sixth straight postseason appearance. CJ McCollum added 24 points. BOX SCORE: TRAIL BLAZERS 104, THUNDER 99 Russell Westbrook had 24 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his ninth career postseason triple-double. Paul George, who was a game-time decision because of a sore shoulder, added 26 points and 10 rebounds after a slow start.

The first round will be its own battle, but even if the Thunder somehow manage to survive, if they want to put any kind of scare into the West’s elite, they desperately need George to regain his midseason form. Simply put, OKC is in dangerous straits against Portland with PG at less than 100%. And the Thunder will have a tough time putting a scare into the conference elite if they manage to advance and George still isn’t playing well.

His Game 1 shooting performance did not bode well for OKC’s chances. PG shot 8-of-24 from the field and only 4-of-15 from three. (The silver lining? The Thunder lost a close game despite George and Westbrook combining to shoot 16-of-41 from the field. OKC as a team isn’t likely to shoot only 15.2% from three all series, and hitting six less threes than your opponent in a five-point loss is in its own way weirdly encouraging.)

The Thunder aren’t dead in the water. They certainly can still salvage their series against the Blazers. But George’s shooting struggles have long moved past concerning trend into legitimate problem. If PG’s body doesn’t cooperate, or he can’t find a way to account for his failing outside shot, then he and his team may have to wait yet another year to find redemption.

Report: Paul George to have shoulder evaluated by specialist.
Thunder All-Star forward Paul George will soon have his right shoulder re-evaluated by a specialist, Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman reports. GM Sam Presti told the media during his annual postseason press conference that George will see a specialist outside of Oklahoma City, but Thunder staff members will be present. George saw action in 77 regular-season games but took four games off to rest his aching shoulder. He was effective in the playoffs despite the discomfort, posting averages on 28.0 PPG, 8.2 RPG and 4.1 APG during the 4-1 opening-round series loss to Portland.
