The Philadelphia Flyers are a professional ice hockey team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are members of the Metropolitan Division of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Eastern Conference.

Vigneault replaces Scott Gordon, a former AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms coach who had filled in on an interim basis for former head coach Dave Hakstol after he was fired in December.

"It is an honor to be selected as the next head coach of the Flyers," Vigneault said. "The history they have established and the passionate fan base has made this a first-class franchise. I am excited to work with Chuck, the talented group of players and prospects coming up through the system, in order to return Philadelphia to the top of the NHL landscape."

Vigneault, who turns 58 next month, brings more than a decade of head coaching experience to the table. He served at the helm for the Canadiens from 1997-2001, the Canucks from 2006-13 and, most recently, the Rangers from 2013-18.

He is also serving as head coach for Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championships in Slovakia.

Vigneault has a career win percentage of .588 and a 648-435-35-98 record.
