It had been 34 days since Miguel Andujar had been in the first-inning role call at Yankee Stadium. When the fans got to the third baseman’s name, and as he acknowledged them, the crowd roared. One of the Yankees’ corps of injured players, a key one at that, was finally returning from the disabled list.

Andujar returned Saturday after having rehabbed his partially torn labrum in his right shoulder, but that was really the only thing to cheer about. Jake Odorizzi shut down the Yankees for six innings as the Twins beat the Yankees 7-3 at the Stadium Saturday.

The Yankees (18-14) lost their third in the last four games. The Twins (20-11) are the second winning team in a stretch of four straight series that the Yankees face this week. They are now 1-6 against teams with winning records this year.

J.A. Happ allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out three in 5.2 innings work. Happ allowed a two-run homer to Mitch Garver in the third and a solo home run in the sixth to C.J. Cron.

Happ, who is coming off a season in which he allowed a career-high 27 homers, has allowed nine homers this season. Seven of those have come at Yankee Stadium.

He almost gave up another in the fourth, but Cameron Maybin made an outstanding leaping grab to rob Jonathan Schoop of a three-run homer.

It was an early exit for the veteran lefty who knew that the Yankees bullpen needed the starter to go long Saturday. They were coming off a night in which the bullpen had to pick up six innings when James Paxton left with yet another key Yankee injury. The lefty was placed on the disabled list before the game.

Report: 2 injured Yankees could start rehab assignments this week

Report: 2 injured Yankees could start rehab assignments this week The New York Yankees are at least getting close to getting some of their key players back from injury.

Miguel Enrique Andújar (born March 2, 1995) is a Dominican professional baseball third baseman for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2017.

They've got another injured player as James Paxton left Friday' s game in the Bronx after just three innings with soreness in his left knee. After having placed a major-league leading 16 players on the IL already this season, there is some satisfaction to seeing Andujar back on the field. He is just the third player to make it back.

But without having the labrum repaired through surgery, there is always the possibility it will completely tear. Aaron Boone said they cannot worry about it.

“The dive that got him hurt was a little bit of a freaky injury,” the Yankee manager explained. “Those things can happen. Those things can still happen. I don’t know that I necessarily worry any more about it. You always know, especially with what we’ve gone through this year, that you’re always one little movement away from something like that happening. I’m not too concerned. We feel like he’s strong, ready and ready to take this on.”

Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar could return next week

Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar could return next week The Yankees open a seven-game homestand on May 3, at which point injured third baseman Miguel Andujar could rejoin their lineup, manager Aaron Boone said Friday (via George A. King III of the New York Post). Whether that happens will depend on how Andujar fares in extended spring training and minor-league rehab games over the next several days. For now, Boone is “cautiously optimistic” about Andujar’s torn right labrum, which looked like a potential season-ending injury when he went on the IL on April 1.

While the New York Yankees are anticipating Miguel Andujar ' s return from a right shoulder strain, they are holding their breath about James Paxton's sore left J . A . Andujar committed an error on the first ball hit to him Saturday, letting a Eddie Rosario grounder get under his glove and another in the seventh, throwing a ball into center field. With the torn labrum, the biggest challenge for Andujar is making strong throws to first base, which was not his strong point anyway. He made three adequate throws to first Saturday.

Andujar has always been an offense-first third baseman, so the struggles in the field are not unexpected. He drew a walk in his first at-bat and then singled in the sixth.

“I’m excited to have another guy with Miggy’s capabilities, potentially adding a little bit more length to our lineup,” Boone said. “He’s one of the guys we’ve been looking forward to getting back. The rehab process for him has gone as well as we could have hoped, so I feel good about getting him back in the mix.”

Neither mattered as the Yankees could not do any damage to Odorizzi. He pitched six scoreless, two-hit innings, striking out eight and walking four.

The Yankees scored their runs off the bullpen. Brett Gardner led off the seventh with a double off Trevor Hildenberger and Maybin moved him to third with a single. Gardner scored on a wild pitch, Maybin scored on DJ LeMahieu’s RBI single. With LeMahieu, who was back in the lineup for the first time since leaving Sunday’s game with inflammation in his right knee, on first, Luke Voit, who had his 42-game on-base streak snapped, grounded out to third.

Boone had flirted with easing Andujar back, using him as the DH in his first game. Having Gary Sanchez, who homered twice in Friday night’s game, in the lineup Saturday, was more of a priority. The catcher, who was one of the others who would not be asked to catch a day game after a night game, so he was the DH.

“He’s in a good place, swinging the bat well. We’re coming off a couple of off-days. I think the consideration I was making was, do I want to catch him back-to-back, day game after a night game, or was I going to DH him,” Boone explained. “That was what I was weighing.”

Sanchez rewarded Boone’s decision with his third home run in two games. He hit a 444-foot home run off the back of the visitors bullpen in the eighth off right-hander Blake Parker.
