The Golden State Warriors will have to keep winning without Kevin Durant for now. The 30-year-old Durant will not play during Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Durant injured his calf during Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. He was ruled out for Game 1 of the Western Conference finals due to the injury, and was considered unlikely to play in Game 2.

Durant averaged 26 points and 6.4 rebounds per game with the team during the regular season. He had been a force this postseason before getting hurt. Durant had scored over 40 points in three of the Warriors’ 11 games prior to the injury.

Report: Kevin Durant out rest of Warriors-Trail Blazers

Report: Kevin Durant out rest of Warriors-Trail Blazers The Warriors are better with Durant. They’re still darned good without him. Though he’s incredibly talented, the offense flows better without him. That’s not to say the offense is more effective without him. But Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala are so good in a system where the ball moves more. That improved fit offsets some of the talent loss. Golden State can win a title without Durant. But it’d definitely be easier (not to say easy) in the NBA Finals against the Bucks or Raptors if he plays. He’d be especially importantly defensively in those matchups.

Rachel Nichols, Richard Jefferson and Scottie Pippen react to the news that Kevin Durant will miss at least Game 1 of Golden State Warriors vs. Portland Trail Blazers in the 2019 NBA playoffs, and whether the team can win a third straight title with KD out.

Watch Trail Blazers @ Warriors Game 1 live on Sky Sports Arena in the early hours of Wednesday morning (2am). Durant is out of Game 1 and is unlikely to return for Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers while he recovers from a strained right calf.

Though they were missing Durant, the Warriors still managed to pull out a win in Game 1 of their series against the Trail Blazers. Stephen Curry carried the load, dropping 36 points on Portland in the 116-94 victory.
