Koepka fires back at Chamblee after omission from golf's best short list
Brooks Koepka did not appreciate being left off Brandel Chamblee's short list of players who can compete with Tiger Woods for best in the world.
Brooks Koepka got his title defense off to a smashing start Thursday with an opening-round 63 during the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black.
Last year’s champ was unbelievably deadly and went into the clubhouse up by four strokes. Koepka didn’t log a single bogey. He went -4 on the front nine and closed out the back with a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to finish -7.

He calls himself a 'regular person,' but Brooks Koepka is golf's budding superstar
DALLAS - Brooks Koepka grew up in the Tiger Woods heyday. Woods' greatness attracted Koepka to golf, and he's now seen first-hand just how much of an impact Woods has on the sport. "I would say 99% of the people that show up when he's playing are there to see him," Koepka said. That's probably not too far-fetched. Like every sport, golf needs superstars and Woods fits that label better than anyone on the PGA Tour. But the sport needs more than just Woods, and Koepka is a budding superstar in his own right. He's the No. 3-ranked player in the world, by far the highest-ranked player in this week's AT&T Byron Nelson at Trinity Forest Golf Club.

It was a surgical round by Koepka, who has been as cool as the other side of the pillow throughout the week leading up to his title defense.
The golf community as a whole is somewhat in awe of what Koepka accomplished on Thursday with his opening-round 63.
Brooks Koepka shoots 7-under 63 with pars on each of the two par-5 holes. This just in: He’s pretty good at these major championship things.
