Larson takes first NASCAR All-Star victory with Harvick push

Larson takes first NASCAR All-Star victory with Harvick push Kyle Larson got a push to the front from Kevin Harvick in the final stage, then held off the defending champion to win the NASCAR All-Star Race on Saturday night. Larson wasn't part of the elite field when the day began, racing his way in by winning the Monster Energy Open earlier at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Now, he's got $1 million for the win and plenty to celebrate in a season where he's had only three top 10s and his biggest highlight was a frightening, airborne crash at Talladega Superspeedway last month. "It feels amazing," Larson said. "I came close to winning a couple of years ago. It feels good to close it out.

It's only fitting that a marathon day of watching racing ends with NASCAR's version of a marathon race. The Monster Energy Cup Series returns to action Saturday night following a week off for the All-Star Race as the green flag drops at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600.

The race is the 13th of the season for points and the longest on the entire circuit. The grueling race consists of 400 laps around the 1.5-mile track. Tires and temperature will likely play a big factor in the race as the grip may be a little loose during the first stage on the hot track, but as the sun sets and temperature falls, drivers should start to feel a little better control.

Truex Jr. wins NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600

Truex Jr. wins NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 Martin Truex Jr. won the caution-filled Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, beating Joey Logano and Kyle Busch in NASCAR's longest race. Truex went four-wide on a restart with four laps to go to take the lead and held on to win the event for the second time in four years. "That was incredible, what a race," said Truex, who overcame an early collision. He won in 2016 in dominating fashion leading 392 of 400 laps, but this was much more competitive. Truex led 116 laps in a race that included 30 lead changes and 16 caution flags.

Kyle Busch will go off as the favorite thanks to a long history of success at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Busch is the defending Coca-Cola 600 winner and finished as runner-up in 2017. He has 16 combined wins at the track across the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. Busch will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing finish at Kansas in which he finished outside of the top 10 for the first time all season.

Kevin Harvick could provide some heavy competition as he looks for his first win of the season. He dominated the majority of the race at Kansas two weeks ago and had the fastest average green-flag speed at the All-Star Race on this very track last weekend. Harvick is a two-time winner of the Coca-Cola 600 and has at least third in five of his last 10 appearances at Charlotte Motor Speedway overall.

Johnson has won the Coca-Cola 600 four times, which is the second most in history, and has finished eighth or better in five of his last six appearances at the track. Despite his absence from victory lane this season, Johnson has finished top-10 in four of the last nine races.
