The Tennessee Titans are going to honor the late Steve McNair and his former teammate, Eddie George, at their home opener this coming season.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk announced the franchise will retire both of their numbers on Sept. 15, saying, “I know my dad loved these guys. He’d be so happy today.”

McNair was tragically shot dead by a woman on July 4, 2009 in downtown Nashville. A franchise legend who led the Titans to a Super Bowl berth during the 1999 season, McNair also made three Pro Bowls, one All-Pro team and was the NFL Co-MVP in 2003. The No. 3 overall pick in 1995, McNair played 11 seasons with the franchise before finishing his career with the Baltimore Ravens.

Texans’ G.M. will have a decision to make on Jadeveon Clowney

Texans’ G.M. will have a decision to make on Jadeveon Clowney Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is still unsigned and not participating in this week’s minicamp. We still don’t know who will make the decision about whether to give Clowney the contract he wants.

George was McNair’s teammate from 1996-2003. During his heyday, the former first-round pick was among the most dominant running backs of his era. He rushed for at least 1,000 yards in all but one of his eight campaigns with the organization, finishing his career with 10,041 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns.

On Wednesday, George opened up about how special it is to be honored in this fashion, along with McNair, saying, “I couldn’t imagine having a day like this, to have my jersey retired without his. It means a lot.”
