1] The accused shooter — Rolfi Ferreras Cruz, 25, also known as Sandy, is accused of firing a single shot that struck Ortiz in the back as the retired slugger sat with friends at an outside table at the Dial Bar and Lounge on Sunday night.

Dominican National Police allege that Cruz admitted to shooting Ortiz and that investigators recovered the firearm he used in the attack. A booking photo of Cruz shows a large skull tattoo on his chest.

He also may have a criminal history in New Jersey.

Lieutenant Robert Bracken of the Clifton, N.J. police said it appears Cruz is the same man wanted for two robberies in that city in 2017.

David Ortiz shooting: One woman and eight men are charged as accomplices Prosecutors charged eight men and one woman as accomplices to the attempted murder of former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz in a brazen attack at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic. The nine suspects were charged in the shooting of Ortiz and television host Jhoel Lopez in Santo Domingo, the local prosecutor's office said. They all appeared in court Thursday in the city. A 10th suspect remains on the run. The relationship between the suspects is unclear.

“They appear to be one in the same, but without the pedigree of the guy down in the Dominican Republic, I cannot make a confirmation,” Bracken wrote in an e-mail Wednesday.

2] The driver — Eddy Vladimir Feliz García, 23, also known as El Nata, allegedly drove Cruz to the Dial on a motorcycle and was pummeled by witnesses as he tried to escape with Cruz after the shooting.

García’s lawyer has said his client is a motorcycle cab driver who picked up the gunman as a fare without knowing his intentions. But prosecutors say video footage and witness statements place García with the other assailants the day before the shooting and in the moments leading up to it.

He’s due back in court at 5 p.m. on Friday, prosecutors said.

García’s also an aspiring rapper who performs under the moniker El Nata MC, according to his Instagram page.

3] Additional alleged assailants — Another suspect, Oliver Moises Mirabal Acosta, was among the men who met with García the evening before the shooting, according to authorities. The following night, Acosta was in one of two vehicles that brought the plotters to a spot near the Dial before the shooting, police said. The car Acosta was in belongs to his wife, according to police.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of the former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz — including one suspected of being the gunman — the authorities in the Dominican Republic said on Wednesday.

In addition, Acosta took possession of the gun after the attack and handed it off to another suspect, Porfirio Ayendi Dechamps Vásquez, also known as Nene, who buried the weapon on his property, according to police.

Acosta has a violent criminal past.

He was one of several men accused of participating in the execution of at least four people in January 2013 in “El Pentagono,” a drug-dealing area in the town of Las Palmas de Herrera, according to the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.

Those 2013 killings were linked, the newspaper said, to a drug trafficking gang. Acosta ultimately received a five-year prison term for gun offenses. It’s not clear how much time he spent behind bars.

Local news outlets have reported that Acosta is the nephew of prominent Dominican sports commentator Franklin Mirabal. In a recent Instagram post, Franklin Mirabal did not deny a familial link but said he doesn’t know Acosta and has no contact with two of his own brothers, who have had brushes with the law. Mirabal stressed that he fully supports David Ortiz.

Authorities said Wednesday that they recovered the gun used in the Ortiz shooting, which Vásquez allegedly buried. He was also in one of the cars the suspects waited in near the Dial before the shooting, according to prosecutors.
