SportManny Machado suspended by MLB after tirade against umpire
Blues' Ivan Barbashev suspended for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final
It may have been just one of a number of egregious missed calls in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, but the NHL Department of Player Safety has decided a high hit that was not called a penalty on the ice is deserving of a one-game suspension. After a hearing with St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev this morning, Player Safety has announced that he will be suspended for Game 6 for an illegal check to the head of Boston Bruins counterpart Marcus Johansson. This is was just one of two missed high hits on Bruins players in the game, as defenseman Torey Krug also took a shot from forward Zach Sanford.
San Diego Padres star Manny Machado was issued a one-game suspension and a fine by MLB on Monday after a tirade against an umpire led to his ejection over the weekend.
Machado was angry about a called third strike in Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. He fumed to umpire Bill Welke. MLB decided Machado needed to be punished for “aggressively arguing and making contact” with Welke.
Braves 3B Josh Donaldson suspended one game for bench clearing incident
For his role in a bench clearing incident in Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves third baseman Josh Donaldson has been suspended for one game. Donaldson will appeal the suspension. #Braves 3B Josh Donaldson got a 1-game suspension for his part in the Monday contretemps with Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove, who was not suspended. Donaldson appealed the suspension and will play tonight.— David O'Brien (@DOBrienATL) June 11, 2019 This really is surprising. While ejecting both Donaldson and Pittsburgh pitcher Joe Musgrove from Monday’s game was controversial, it can be defended from two perspectives.
