The Yankees are not aiming low in the pitching market this year.

New York has its eye on two All-Stars, a former Cy Young award candidate and a man who is likely to make his first All-Star team this season.

The Yankees are targeting Giants postseason whiz Madison Bumgarner, Nationals righty and three-time Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer, Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman — who finished seventh in the American League Cy Young voting in 2017 — and Tigers lefty Matthew Boyd, who should make his first All-Star team this year.

All of this is according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman who spoke about the team's particular interest in each player on the "Big Time Baseball" Podcast this week with Josh Lewin.

Several pitchers on the market carry name value but minimal results in recent years. And on the Trade Market ? Everyone knows that Tigers lefty Matthew Boyd is available for the right asking price, but the The Dodgers were connected to the big fish, as they are every offseason, but once again

He pitched in the Yankees ’ minor league system several years back before blossoming into a quality starter with both Chicago teams. They would immediately target big impact guys because they just lost a big impact guy. If your steak falls off the plate you don’t substitute it with dog food do you?

On Stroman:

"Stroman is going to be traded, I can't pinpoint the date, but he is certainly out there already. I know the Yankees and other teams have inquired, I have heard from some of those teams that the price is too high at the moment, I don't blame Toronto for asking for a high price, he's certainly put it all together again."

On Bumgarner:

"The Yankees, I've heard, have a split on Bumgarner. They love, obviously, the fact that he is the greatest postseason pitcher we've all ever seen probably, but the Yankees are one of those teams that really relies on analytics…and I think there's a little bit of a split because the analytics don't say all that much positive apparently about MadBum, so it will be interesting to see how hard they go for him."

Tanaka Ks 10 in 2-hitter, Yankees blank Rays 3-0 to up lead

Tanaka Ks 10 in 2-hitter, Yankees blank Rays 3-0 to up lead NEW YORK (AP) — Masahiro Tanaka pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for his fourth major league shutout, and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 on Monday night to increase their slim lead in the AL East. DJ LeMahieu hit a two-run homer off Yonny Chirinos, and Cameron Maybin homered in his third consecutive game. That was all a dominant Tanaka (5-5) needed while throwing 76 of 111 pitches for strikes in his seventh complete game since coming over from Japan. Edwin Encarnación received an enthusiastic ovation from fans in his Yankees debut after being acquired from Seattle in a trade late Saturday night.

The Yankees have remained in regular contact with the Blue Jays about right-hander Marcus Rosenthal also reported that a concept has been under discussion whereby the Mets would trade The names of other top Padres prospects -- such as infielder Luis Urias and left-handers Adrian

In moving Happ, the Yankees would obviously be selling low. While Happ has long been a quality starter in the There are plenty of MLB starting pitchers that were below average and would never even be Frazier turned in a pretty fine season in his first prolonged exposure to big league pitching .

On Scherzer:

"Scherzer's the guy that the Yankees would love to get, but at this point I'm going to say basically no chance, no way the Nats trade him. They're back in the race after a heroic outing with a broken nose, so I'm just not seeing him being traded."

On Boyd:

"Boyd, another guy the Yankees and other teams have looked at, and again, his price tag is big as well, as (with) three of the main guys."

The Yankees currently lead the American League East with a 50-28 record having won nine of their last 10 games including three out of four from the Astros.

However, in those games against Houston they were forced to go with a bullpen game in Game 1 and J.A. Happ got hit hard in Game 4, so there is certainly room for improvement in their rotation.

And general manager Brian Cashman clearly sees that. Best guess is the Yankees add a pitcher and odds are pretty good it will be from one of these four guys. We'll see which one they get and how much they have to pay to get him.
