Cubs left-hander Cole Hamels strained his left oblique in Friday's start against the Reds and will be placed on the 10-day injury list Saturday, Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters after Chicago's 6-3 loss in Cincinnati.

The team will have a better handle on Hamels' injury after he undergoes an MRI, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Hamels threw 22 pitches in the first inning, allowing one run on two hits and a walk before leaving the game after one warmup pitch before the second inning.
