Cousins agreed to a one-year deal withe Los Angeles Lakers Saturday, reuniting the duo that played on the New Orleans Pelicans together in 2017-18, as well as part of the prior season.

Up until Saturday’s deal, Cousins had been an afterthought in a hectic free agency period due to concerns over his health after only playing 30 regular-season games last season, as well as a lackluster postseason performance. But if there’s anyone for Cousins to play with to get back to his old self, it’s Davis.

Davis had a stellar season in 2017-18 as well, scoring 28.1 points a game — the highest average of his career. He also recorded his highest three-point percentage at 34 percent.

The chemistry could benefit the Lakers immensely. New Orleans finished with a 48-34 record and made it to the Western Conference semifinals for the first time since 2007-08 that season. While Cousins had  a season-ending Achilles tear in January of 2018 and therefore wasn’t part of the postseason run, his play with Davis was crucial to setting up the team to get to the playoffs after missing the mark the past two seasons.

Rajon Rondo, who also signed with Los Angeles Saturday, was on that 2017-18 team as well — though his role was much smaller.

Davis and Cousins have proved to be a dangerous frontcourt together, bringing out the best in each other. And now LeBron James will be in the mix as well. It’s not the big three the Lakers initially hoped for with Kawhi Leonard, but nonetheless they’ve still got three All-Star talents on the roster.
