The Oklahoma City Thunder were knocked out of the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs by the Portland Trail Blazers, marking the third consecutive postseason in which the team was bounced in the opening round. The team was still underperforming despite 2019 MVP candidate Paul George and 2017 MVP Russell Westbrook leading the charge. So when George had the chance to team up with Kawhi Leonard on the Los Angeles Clippers, he took it - albeit in atypical fashion.

But he may have not been the first Thunder superstar to want out of Oklahoma City after 2018-19's disappointing end.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Westbrook brought up the idea of a trade well before Paul asked for his own:

After trade, Russell Westbrook shows love to Paul George on Instagram Russell Westbrook showed love to Paul George on Instagram following his ex-teammate’s trade to the LA Clippers. George posted a photo of him with his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates on Instagram Saturday, along with a farewell note following two seasons with the team. “Thank you Oklahoma for 2 great years, you took me in as one of your own from the day I touched down. Thank you to the fans who make representing those 3 letters mean something. Thank you to Sam and Clay for being the best management a franchise and player could ask for.

Paul George already is on his way out of town, as the Thunder reportedly dealt PG13 to the Los Angeles Clippers with whom he’ll play Not long after the news of the George trade broke, chatter began to circulate indicating Oklahoma City was surveying its options for a Russell Westbrook trade .

"I heard that [ Westbrook ] wanted out and that PG just beat him to the punch and neither one of them knew that the other one was thinking that way Regardless, Westbrook 's Thunder tenure appears to be nearing its end. The team is already down two starters in George and power forward Jerami Grant

Westbrook met with the Thunder front office this week to say he would welcome a trade following Paul George's departure to the Clippers. But an individual with knowledge of the talks said Westbrook initially broached the subject after OKC's season ended with a first-round loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Feigen's report echoes what Marc J. Spears of the Undefeated reported directly following the news of George's trade, in which Spears stated, "Westbrook has been quietly grumbling about the team's struggles and may want out."
