The second-year tight end has been suspended for violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse. The 23-year-old will serve the suspension without pay at the beginning of the 2019 season.

Herndon will be eligible to return on Monday, Oct. 7 after the Jets square off against the Philadelphia Eagles. The tight end can participate in all offseason activities including the pre-season.

Herndon was already facing possible league discipline under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy after he pled guilty to a DWI in January after being arrested last June.

The Reds announcer had an incredibly poor and callous choice of words to talk about the Cubs shortstop’s suspension from Major League Baseball on Sunday. Brennaman’s comments about Russell’s 40-game suspension came as Russell was up to bat in the second inning and was part of a theme of the shortstop’s struggles in 2019. In his rookie season, Herndon went for 39 receptions and 502 total yards hauling in four touchdowns, tied for the lead among all rookie tight ends.

Herndon has quickly become a favorite target of quarterback Sam Darnold.

The Jets will face the Bills, Browns, Patriots and Eagles without Herndon at the start of the new campaign.

Vikings cornerback Holton Hill gets another four-game suspension.
MINNEAPOLIS - The NFL suspended Vikings cornerback Holton Hill for four games on Tuesday for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Hill's suspension - which comes on top of the four-game ban he received for violating the NFL's rules on performance-enhancing drugs - means he will be out for the Vikings' first eight games. He is eligible to practice and play in the preseason, but will not be able to play until Nov. 3 against the Chiefs. The team signed Hill as an undrafted free agent in 2018, giving him more guaranteed money ($75,000) than they’d offered to any undrafted rookie in the Mike Zimmer era.
