Among the thin group of well-known veterans still lingering around as NBA free agents is a former All-Star that Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter considers a legend, causing him to be surprised that said player hasn't yet found a new home in the Association.

Enes Kanter (Turkish: [eˈnes kanˈtæɾ]; born May 20, 1992) is a Swiss-born Turkish professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association ( NBA ).

Anthony has seemingly been maligned by NBA front offices. A 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA selection, Anthony had been one of the most talented scorers in the league for 15 years.

At 35-years-old, he's no spring chicken and with Father Time catching up to him, his defensive shortcomings have become more pronounced. Further, Anthony's preference for scoring in isolation situations and his penchant for taking midrange jumpers goes against the grain of what's become popular in the league.

Combine those factors with his reluctance to accept a reduced role, one that would put him in the back end of the rotation instead of a featured member of it, and the picture that's been painted of Anthony since being traded from the New York Knicks becomes clear.

Still, it’s significant that Anthony seems to be a regular participant in the sessions, which are being held in Los Angeles and were organized by Kyrie Irving.

NEW YORK, September 25, 2017 – The New York Knickerbockers announced today that the team has acquired center Enes Kanter , forward Doug McDermott McDermott, 6-8, 225-pounds, is a three-year NBA who holds career averages of 8.0 points in 183 games played for Chicago and Oklahoma City.

It's an image of an over-the-hill superstar who can't accept reality.

Whether or not there's any foundation to that perception of Anthony, it's become the common theme for teams that don't want to sign him, even with buddy and NBA megastar LeBron James trying to pull strings to get a team to bring him onboard.

Anthony is still one of the most skilled low-post scorers and with a forward's size, that gives him some advantages in a small-ball lineup.

Though he's not automatic as a catch-and-shoot option, he's had multiple seasons where he's been an above-average spot-up shooter; and playing off-ball is key for any player but especially one who isn't seen as a feature scorer.

Isolation plays and midrange attempts are frowned down upon today but against a lesser or neophyte defender, Anthony could be a relatively reliable option.

NBA Rumors: Lakers Target Carmelo Anthony , Knicks Release Enes Kanter . • The Knicks are releasing center Enes Kanter . (Adrian Wojnarowski, ESPN). • Wesley Matthews is expected to sign with the Pacers after being released by the Pacers.

Center Enes Kanter has signed a free-agent contract with the Celtics , his agent announced Monday. Kanter can’t officially sign until the NBA free agent moratorium is lifted July 6. Kanter ’s contract is for two years and million, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Frankly, the only doubts that a team could have that would have recent them from taking a flyer on Anthony are whether he'll be able to defend at even a decent level and the impact he'll have in the locker room. Young teams trying to develop their players may see Anthony as a hinderance to their growth and veteran teams may see him as an ill-fitting piece of their puzzle.

Nonetheless, it's easy to understand Kanter's incredulity that Anthony hasn't been signed by any of the 30 teams in NBA. A team like the Celtics simply wouldn't have interest in Anthony at this stage because their front court rotation will undoubtedly feature Kanter, Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward as feature players with rookies Grant Williams and Vincent Poirier likely to receive heavy minutes as well.

However, teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets could all feasibly use a player like Anthony in order to bolster their frontcourt rotation.

While a player like longtime NBA guard Jamal Crawford remained unsigned for similar reasons, it's hard to say Anthony should be signed before the three-time Sixth Man of the Year. However, Anthony does deserve another shot and, much more importantly, a better ending to his storied career.
