Celtics Coach Brad Stevens: ‘Last Year Was No Fault of Kyrie’

Celtics Coach Brad Stevens: ‘Last Year Was No Fault of Kyrie’ The Celtics struggled to meet high expectations last season, but Brad Stevens isn't looking for someone to blame. He explained that the issues they faced were not because of Kyrie Irving.

Kemba Walker has long stood out in Brad Stevens ’ memory, including the occasional bad dream. That alone had to be a relief for the coach Sunday night Walker ’s most prolific swing last season came partially at the Celtics’ expense, when he followed up a career-high 60-point performance against

Kemba Hudley Walker (born May 8, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens has complimented the charisma and character of Celtics point guard Kemba Walker before but it seems that what Stevens sees different about his newest point guard is that the charitable Kemba "plays with a smile."

Speaking to The Crossover's Justin Barrasso, Stevens says that "there is a contagiousness to [Kemba] that will be fun."

"The way I feel about Kemba, even through his UConn days, is that he plays with a smile," Stevens said. "There is a contagiousness to him that will be fun. There is a lot on his plate, and we've had really good point guards-[Rajon] Rondo, Isaiah [Thomas], who was incredible and had that year in 2016-17 that was ridiculous, and Kyrie was second team All-NBA this year and would've been All-NBA last year if he hadn't got hurt at the end. Our point guards are asked to do a lot, but we're awfully glad Kemba is here."

Of course Team USA wasn’t going to win the FIBA World Cup

Of course Team USA wasn’t going to win the FIBA World Cup The U.S. team was eliminated on Wednesday by France.

If Kemba Walker and the Boston Celtics indeed strike a max contract once NBA free agency opens In Boston's offense, Brad Stevens doesn't roll that way. If he worked to increase Irving's passing volume and Inserting Walker into the style Stevens wants to play should also find him a few easier

When Brad Stevens and Hornets assistant coach Ronald Nored spoke over the course of the year, their mutual “ Kemba ’s a great guy,” Nored said. “ He ’s like the best guy ever, really. And that, for the most part, was the message Nored relayed to Stevens after the Celtics agreed to sign Walker to

His personality has been discussed far more than his basketball prowess but perhaps that's an indication of how impressive it is to be enveloped by his aura.

Well-regarded as a leader in the locker room and the Charlotte community prior to signing with Boston, Walker's prominent position on Team USA has given Celtics fans the opportunity to take a closer look at his leadership and how his persona permeates a team.

Not only has Walker been Team USA's most consistent producer throughout the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup - his shiftiness, ball-handling and shooting touch allowing him to make sensational plays with ease - but he's also consistently found positives from the team's performances, even when it's been obvious that they were playing below the standard Team USA is held to.

The Celtics are about to take ‘small ball’ to the extreme

The Celtics are about to take ‘small ball’ to the extreme Boston’s most talented lineup is all wings and guards. Can the Celtics turn it into a strength?

Brad Stevens reaffirmed his respect for former Celtics Kyrie Irving and Al Horford in a wide-ranging interview on Tuesday. “That’s part of free Kyrie Irving, Al Horford, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, and Aron Baynes are all gone, replaced by a group that is headlined by Kemba Walker , Enes Kanter and

Head coach Brad Stevens of the Boston Celtics reacts in the first half against the Cleveland Cavaliers during Game 2. –Maddie Meyer/Getty Images. But the policy reveals Stevens ’s attitude towards team-building and the importance he places on having a cohesive unit bent on collective success.

It may be no coincidence then that it's the same attitude that's been displayed by teammates Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum, among others, when assessing the team's progress.

If what's been transpiring during the World Cup is any indicator of what the future holds for Boston, their locker room will be far less likely to have the type of tensions that existed last season.

Where Kyrie Irving is mercurial, at times even aloof, Walker is seemingly always amiable and engaging. For a team that's undergone so much change in such a short time and will have their share of ups and downs next season, as every team but especially teams with a lack of familiarity with one another face, Walker's approach will fortify the locker room in ways that last season's roster could only dream of.

It won't just be Kemba that will have a dramatic impact on the locker room though, as players like rookie forward Grant Williams and veteran center Enes Kanter are extremely friendly (and equally competitive) people who will do their best to unify the locker room every chance they get. The players they're replacing - Marcus Morris and Al Horford - were solid locker room influences too but Morris' gritty outlook has been replaced by Williams' goofiness and Horford's quiet leadership has been replaced by a very vocal Kanter.

He can turn underrated players like Jae Crowder into starters. He can take secondary recruits and run them Celtics Kemba Walker , Jaylen Brown pumped for Gregg Popovich. So are the Clippers and Celtics — and the notion that Brad Stevens may just be able to coach established veterans after all.

Brad Stevens , surprisingly, somewhat agrees with the sentiment. Brad Stevens on the Raptors’ Kawhi Leonard addition: “Toronto was the best team in the East and they added one of the best players in the NBA.”

Next season will be one of the more interesting in recent memory considering all of the changes that the Celtics have undergone this summer and, hoping to capitalize on the renewed parity seen throughout the NBA landscape, Walker's effect on Boston's locker room will be a storyline to follow all season.
