What Changed After Serena vs. the Umpire? Not Much. A year ago, after a heated dispute between Serena Williams and the umpire who cited her for rules violations before she lost the women’s final at the United States Open, there were rapid-fire calls for change. The rule at the heart of the disagreement — that Williams was being coached from the stands, a charge that her coach later admitted was accurate — was derided as outdated, inconsistently applied, and puzzling for fans and players. The chair umpire, Carlos Ramos, was called sexist, but also praised for enforcing the rules as they were written. Sign Up For the Morning Briefing Newsletter With another U.S.

Mo Farah won the men's elite race for a record sixth successive year as he warms up to defend his Chicago Marathon title next month.

Four-time Olympic champion Farah, 36, was pushed hard by Tamirat Tola, but proved too strong in the final mile for the Ethiopian, to finish the 13.1-mile course in 59min 7sec. Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands was third.

Farah is aiming to establish himself among the world's elite marathon runners.

He claimed his first marathon title last year when he won in Chicago in a time of 2:05.11-- a European record.

Mobile loans apps Tala, Branch, Okash face scrutiny in Kenya .
Kenya's Central Bank governor has criticized digital lending platforms as “displaying shylock-like behavior while hiding behind nice-looking applications.” Permissive regulations have been partly to blame too with huge amounts of credit in Kenya now accessible outside the purview of state supervision. One key gap is the regulation of lending in Kenya is done through institutional form and not by activity. So given digital lenders do not accept customer deposits as banks and SACCOS do, they are not subject to the same licensing or regulations.
